Loading EXS snare stack into one Ultrabeat slot?

I have a kit I've been using - Studio Tight kit - in ultrabeat but I want to change the snare to one that's available in the EXS Single Snares menu. I can navigate to that folder no problem but getting that whole stack into a single slot in UB isn't working.

The manual says to use the Import button and then drag the sound into the mixer. What I get is a list of what sounds like out-of-tune versions of that stack and maybe only one sample from that whole stack / instrument, stretched up and down that part of the window (right beside the "Main" column). If I drag any of those from the list into the snare slot, I don't get anything like the original EXS instrument. Am I approaching this the wrong way? Is this even possible?

Those Sampler Instruments consists of a samples (velocity stacked) that is pitched throughout the whole keyboard.

Not really practical for Ultrabeat.

I would open the Instrument in EXS24 first and then remove the Pitch function, you can also restrict the range to only one note but that is optional.

Save it as your instrument and import it into UB.

Remember that there are a bunch of individual snare snare banks for UB too.

Ok, I edited the snare I wanted in the EXS to a one note range and saved that as a new instrument. Then I imported it. However, I can only hear the bottom note of that stack (it's only three notes deep) when I click on it's name in the UB import column. And when I drag that onto the slot where I want it, it's still only the bottom sample, not the stack.

Any way to get the whole stack on that slot? It would seem to be possible, since the kits in UB sounds like the same kit in in the EXS - all layers sounding.

EDIT: I've got a bit further by imitating various settings for that slot from another UB instrument. Now I can hear both the top and bottom samples but not the middle one and it sounds like both the bottom and middle one are sounding together at high velocities. Otherwise, it doesn't have quite the sound, feel or levels of the original imported instrument.
