El Capitan 10.11.4 is released - Anyone have stories to tell

Apple released an update to El Capitan today, version 10.11.4. I am running fine using Logic Pro X 10.2.2 and various plugins with 10.11.3 on a MacBook Pro 15" (mid 2015). Knowing me, I'll take the plunge and update the OS in the next few days. If anyone has already updated and has experiences pro or con, please post.

I ain't updating anything until further notice! >:[ My good old Fast Track Pro interface was deemed useless (no drivers for new os) after upgrading to El Capitan so I had to get a new one (Audient id14). I'm not risking having to adjust anything else. I'm fine with whatever version of El Capitan I have at the moment, and will be for at least 2 years or so.

Would love to read some horror stories though. >:]

Now, that you mention it, @ Eric, I have been getting the ‘Core MIDI error’ lately with my FocusRite/Scarlett 2i4 (Class Compliant) interface when I start up LPX, and the 10.11.4 update has not changed anything here.

I just start up Midi Monitor before I run LPX and that seems to avoid / fix it.

FocusRite has a little Apple Script for it, but it doesn’t do much.

Strangely, it seems to have started right after I downloaded some additional GarageBand content a while back, although I can’t imagine that could have anything to do with it, but time wise, that seems to be when it started. I don’t even use GB that much, if at all.

Other than that, 10.11.4 and 10.2.2 seems fine for me, although I am not really a Pro user at this time, so my demands on LPX are not that great.

I do wish Apple would clean up the take folders and MIDI recording stuff, in general.

It’s amazing how bad those basic functions don’t work smoothly at all.

I get this warning too when I have a Korg PA600 arranger that I use as a midi controler via usb. I ask logic to reset midi but that don't work.

I then close LPX, launch LP9. LP9 immediatly resets the midi connection and the keyboard works. I close LP9, open LPX and everything's fine. I still run OSX 10.11.3

There's something screwed up in LPX it seems.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi all.

So i updated my mac to El Capitan 10.11.4 on April 12th. Prior to this i was running El Capitan, but honestly didn't check what version. The issue is that today i was all ready to record. I have logic 10.2.2, and I have a focusrite 2i4 and a macbook pro 2008 13inch screen.

Prior to the update, i have recorded with no issues. Today i go and plug everything in, and logic doesnt allow me to select my input/output

only options are "built in input and output, or system setting! i don't have the option to select my scarlett 2i4 as an input/output as i have in the last week. I have tried everything, And don't know what else to do. According to focusrite, this interface is a plug and play. And it has worked like that in the last few weeks. I also tried compliance mode, and to no avail. I uninstalled and reinstalled logic, and to no avail.

I have also downloaded all the drivers just in case, and to no avail. So i deleted them again, for the 10th time. Im not very tech savvy and this is really stressful. I hope i haven't ruined anything. The focusrite help line is closed today. I have been at this since 10amEST its now 10pmEST and haven't been able to record all day, or fix this problem.

Can anybody help? I'm so upset about this.

I was having CoreMIDI errors too, for a while, but it’s OK right now.

I have about the same setup as you do.

For a while I would just start up MIDI Monitor just before I started Logic and that worked.

Yes, it should be ‘plug and play’ (Class Compliant) and it seems to be just that for me right now.

Delete any Focusrite drivers you have.

What really seems to have solved it for here, was to delete all KorgUSB drivers, which I had, because I use a Korg nanoKontrol 2 controller also (Class Compliant). There were 3 of them. Once I did that CoreMIDI has ben ok. Strange, but true.

You should probably fill in your system and Logic setup there in your LPXHelp personal Control Panel (Signature area) so others can more easily help you with this problem.

There’s still some other users that run into this problem occasionally and strangely enough if often boils down to deleting certain drivers that you don’t need. Avids’ drivers have caused problems in certain situations too. It’s allusive.
