mclight
I've attached the picture. Since some time (Logic X?) the Novation icon is no longer visible on the control surface. In addition I've discovered this exclamation mark in the icon today. You can't click it and Logic doesn't tell you what it means when you mouse over it. Any suggestions if this has a serious meaning and what to do? Thx for your help!
mclight
Ok, this is annoying. The exclamation mark means: "Hey, I forgot how to use the Automap Mixer" which means, that I can't control the mixer from my Novation keyboard. This happens as soon as I quit Automap (eg. after quitting Logic and then quit Automap and the restart everything). Any tips how I can make Logic/Automap remember the Automap Mixer control surface? mclight
It seems nobody is experiencing this problem besides myself. I have contacted Novation support. Logic keeps forgetting the Automap Mixer about each third launch causing me to delete the old automap mixer and rescan. Than I'm good for the next few launches until it happens again. Moreover automap wants to update my slmkii controller about each fifth launch and after updating it it updates the templates as well. I'm close to throwing both slmkii out of my house - it's so annoying!
David Nahmani
I would try deleting the .cs (control surface) preference file from Logic and reinstall Automap and any file related to this control surface.
mclight
Thx for the hint, David! Do you mean this file: com.apple.logic.pro.cs? Do you suggest to delete it via Logic's preference window or manually via the user/library folder? Novation support has answered by now and the only suggestion they came up with was installing their latest Automap beta and give it a try. mclight
Ok, I went for the manual deleting of com.apple.logic.pro.cs via the finder / library / prefs path. This of course "killed" the automap mixer and after rescanning it was found again. I've run several tests so far and it seems that Logic forgets about the automap mixer as soon as Logic is started and Automap was NOT started before. I'm pretty sure this was not necessary some time ago. I remember that Automap started automatically when launching Logic. Therefor I think that it was sort of "always on" when Logic was on (no matter if I wanted to use Automap for my controller keyboard or didn't have even one plugged in) and therefor Logic's control surface could never "forget" the mixer. And if Logic forgot it just once because of Automap not started manually before launching Logic, it is forgotten for ever ... until one rescans. As for ongoing firmware updates I've installed the beta Automap ... and the first thing that happened was the update window when switching on the slmkii ... life can be frustrating. redgreenblue
Automap definitely has to be running before you launch Logic as it creates ports in the environment. I've never found it to be a good idea to change the # of ports in Logic once it is running. I just have mine set to launch on boot. The environment can be a little dumb if it doesn't see something it expects. I use A LOT of different routings and they get screwed up if I don't have the same devices running each time I launch Logic.
mclight
@redgreenblue: with "launch on boot" you mean that you have included it in the list of start-objects under your user-prefs, correct?
redgreenblue
There is a preference in Automap Server to have the software launch on startup, or your could add it to user prefs.
mclight
I've looked closely but couldn't find such a preference within the Automap Server software. I've made Automap now a start object of OSX which makes it launch Automap each time I boot my mac. But this seems more like a workaround and I'd rather have Automap only launched when launching Logic. As for this reoccurring updates support suggested reflashing the firmware via a forced MIDI update (here's a link for the procedure: https://support.novationmusic.com/hc/en-gb/articles/206690159-SL-mkII-forced-OS-update-via-MIDI). I'm not too excited about this (install additional software, install a midi-interface etc.) and asked for some kind of reset option ...
