Weird hard disk noise when Logic is running...

Computer: G5 Dual 2Ghz, 2.5 GB RAM, two internal hard drives

Logic 7.1

OS 10.4.8

Really weird: Whenever Logic is running, the main internal hard drive goes crazy. NO INSTRUMENTS are loaded into Logic - NOTHING, no video, just an empty template. Even if I close that template the noise is still there. When I close Logic the noise is gone. ANY IDEAS?

I did: repair permissions, used different Logic songs, played with audio hardware latencies. But even the Logic internal CPU usage is at ZERO.

Activity Monitor shows one peak after another. No other programs are running.

Quite desperate

Thanks for any advice

The thing is that the weird noise ONLY exists when LOGIC is open. Once I close LOGIC the computer is running fine and without any noise...

ANY MORE SUGGESTIONS?

Try streaming movies from your samples drive in Quick Time.

Try running another audio program which uses that drive.

Try to isolate that it is the drive to make sure it is not faulting.

- There is no movie file loaded in LOGIC.

- No other (audio) app behaves that way

- The drive seems fine once I quit LOGIC

- No samples are loaded - nothing is streaming...

STILL WEIRD HARD DRIVE NOISE. Activity Monitor shows one peak after another. Logic's System Performance shows NOTHING on both Disk I/O and CPU meters...

Could it be a version conflict (7.1 versus OS 10.4.8) ???

Hi David,

it is the drive that peaks in the Activity Monitor. It reads and WRITES - very strange - so I get red and green peaks - CONSTANTLY.

I will update Logic to version 7.2 now... Hope this helps...

Any more ideas?
