Step Editor: Automatic Recognition of Last Lane Set?

Let's say I've created my own lane set for a drum track and then I'll make on a synth track a different lane set for the synth. Now when I go back to the drum track Logic will display the lane set I just created on the synth track for the drums until I choose my proper lane set for this drum track in the inspector.

Is there a way to have Logic "remember" which was the last lane set I used for a specific track? It would be perfect if one could tell Logic if it uses the last lane set used in any track when looking at a different track or if Logic uses the last lane set used in the step editor for THIS specific track (eg. always the drum lane set for the drum track and the synth lane set for the synth track). Is there such an option or does one always have to choose the proper lane set manually when switching tracks?

I guess that by design the Step Editor allows one to create different sets of lanes for the same data in order to provide different editing approaches for different purposes at the same time, some kind of multi-perspectives (view angles) to achieve more complex goals. Flexibility that comes seemingly with a price...

To circumvent this paradox, have you considered using screen sets instead?

I agree and I think it's good to have this possibility to look at the same data through different "glasses". And sometimes I'm doing that (eg. using a different lane set the drums than the "standard" lane set I created in the first place). However, most of the time I'd like to use the lane set I created in the first place. But Logic always uses the the lane set I've used the last time.

I'm using screensets quite a lot - but I wasn't aware that they are an excellent work-around for this problem. You're right - this works - hooray! :-) I thought screensets will not recall the lane set and thus just keep the last view I had chosen in the step editor. But they do recall the last view too - thx a lot for this tip!

Well, aren't there link options in the view menu of the step editor? But you're right, the link symbol itself is missing in the step editor.

Somehow I still struggle with the step editor. It seems great for editing drums and for seeing several CCs at once which can't be done in the piano roll or main window. But most of the time I end up in the piano roll with midi draw switched on an cycling through the CCs in midi draw there. And when I'm working with the step editor I tend to create a sort of reduced note view manually by adding one lane for each note and sorting them by height so that it looks like the reduced view of the piano roll. I have difficulties with the lane displaying all note events on one lane ... I find that confusing.
