Bouncing issue

Hey, I've been using Logic Express for a while and had no problems with it, I've recently upgraded to Logic Pro and there's one issue that's really annoying me, I can't figure it out.

Basically, when I bounce something, such as one bar of a note from an EXS24 patch, there is no sound from the bounced file. If I bounce 2 bars each with the same note, the first note played does not seem to get bounced, being replaced by silence in the audio file, but the second one plays as it should.

The same thing happens when I try to resample an audio sample aswell, so I don't think it's a problem with my MIDI. It's as if it's missing the first half a second or so when it's bouncing something.

Is there anything I can do to synchronize Logic so that it bounces correctly from the precise position I enter? I really need to sort this out because it is important when bouncing samples to make new EXS instruments.

Hope someone can help :)

If you're starting playback (or bouncing) from a downbeat or other "even" beat you will have a problem. I know this may seem inexplicably bizarre, but depending on your MIDI chase settings, Logic will not play back EXS-24 (or other plugs') notes when you initiate playback (or start a bounce) on a downbeat or other even beat.

The key to getting this to work correctly is:

a) changing your MIDI chase prefs so that Chase On Cycle Jump (and the "notes" checkbox below it) are unchecked, or, leaving that setting as it is and...

b) starting playback (or setting your left locator) to an odd-ish beat before the downbeat, or even a whole measure before.

For example, if your music starts on bar 2 1 1 1, start playback (or bouncing) from 1 4 3 110 or something equally as odd. Generally, starting 8th note or so before the downbeat will work around this problem.

And as far as your audio bounces not starting on the downbeat, that's a weird one which I've never encountered myself. The only workaround I can think of is to set your left locator to the previous bar, or, move your music one bar forward (use the "insert and move" function for this) and then do your bounces from bar 1.

Thanks man. I'll give those a try. Shame I can't get it to work properly because I didn't experience this with Express. I might actually try a reinstall, see if that sorts it out :)

Cheers.

Really, man, don't go for the reinstall. I highly doubt that it will be worth the trouble. In my experience I haven't found that the program itself breaks on the HD. It's that the program itself (or certain features) that are inherently broken and reinstalling isn't going to help.

Trust me on the advice I gave you above. It's the result of hours and hours of seriously-minded troubleshooting, with the result that changing chase settings, as I described, result in repeatable GOOD behavior from EXS playback, for one.

And I also don't know if it's possible to expect Logic Pro to behave the same as Logic Express. They're not the same program in many respects, and even EXS is different (it's a player in LE and an editable sampler in LP).

Whatever you decide, hope you get the results you want. Good luck!! :D

yeah ... i think this will have something to do with the delay comp ... you need to start your bounce before you actually want it so that it can 'line' everything up ....

have you got plugs inserted etc ?

third party dsp plugs use a lot of buffering ...!
