fader8
I'm tracking through a 16 track deck... and sending the signal from the Repro head to Logic... I need to account for the time it takes for the tape to travel at 15ips from the record head to the repro head and then bump the tracks forward in time by that specific amount. The easiest way to do that is with expertsleepers free Latency Fixer plug-in: http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/latencyfixer.html This will report the latency you dial in which will then be compensated for by the PDC by advancing your track's audio. Another way is to move the region's anchor by your number of samples. Get your calculator out, and be sure not to change tempo!. I've found the nudge key commands but can't figure out how to nudge my regions by a user defined amount... In my case 0.0.0.09.06 smpte frames/seconds? or 0.0.0.2217 samples? is it. No, you can't set a specific number of samples to nudge by. That's why I'm suggesting the above plug-in. And while i'm asking.. is there an easy way to figure out the length of a region for time calculation purposes?? Open the Event Float and it will tell you the duration of your selected region based on your display settings. menu drop downs would be cool.. You can customize the toolbar to include Nudge Value as a dropdown menu. But as I said, you can't set this up for specific sample lengths. norton
fader8 you are the king! Thanks for the heads up on expertsleepers and setting the anchor points too... slick! I do admit that i was hyper focused on the nudge function and knew there had to be other ways to get this done. thanks again. dig zack
camillo jr
I've found the half frame nudge (about 16.5 ms depending on frame rate) to be generally very useful but I sure wish there was a simple way to do 5 and 10 ms nudges, which I think they have in Protools. Smpte bits, at about a half a milisecond, just aren't big enough to my ears for making quick adjustments to the feel. Setting Format to 192 is a klugey option and only works with very fast tempos. Are there any work-arounds towards getting those kind of Ptools styled nudges? Being able to quickly set up bar, beat and frame nudges is great but a five ms nudge would rock my world. norton
Camillo I hear you. something user definable just seems to make sooo much more sense than all the "presets".. For the kind of offset i've got to do to line tape up... i kind of need to be able to define exactly where the region goes to line up. unless it's a drum track that's pretty easy to do visually... I've put out some feelers.. on other boards but so far nothing better than the expert sleepers plugins... if you find something out shout it out so the whole internet can hear you! dig zack
David Aurora
yeah ive been wondering about some of this stuff too actually as a former pro tools user. there seems to be 1000 ways to measure time in logic and none of them are what id usually go for. im so used to just clicking 1ms/5ms etc.
fader8
Likewise, I find it just as frustrating in Pro Tools that I can't user define the nudge value to say, 45mS, for example. You''re stuck with their preset amounts too!
norton
Is there a way to cut and paste a region in an exact location?? "cut and paste_____" oh how i hope there is. dig zack
camillo jr
Is there a way to cut and paste a region in an exact location?? If I understand your question, the "Go To Position" key command is your friend here. I have this key com set up on the period of the numeric pad - hit that, type bar number and Return. Very fast. When you make the key command, make sure to select Learn by Key Position first if you want to use that particular period key.

You''re stuck with their preset amounts too! No. You can do that in Protools actually. Just select the number in the toolbar bit and type in '45'. You can set nudge to any amount you like. eg 1265 samples if you like. I wish Logic could do this.

You''re stuck with their preset amounts too! I don't think this is true. You can enter the amount like any other text field, click on the nudge value display just under the song position display, and enter your value, it will work to your specified format (samples, ms, etc.)... At least in PT7.
marcel72
Hmmm... I just totally repeated Patchr. Nevermind.
