Logic not receiving prgram change messages but Ableton does

Don't know why but it worked before, now I cannot get the Au Synths in logic to receive the program change messages from my evolution mk 461c Keyboard, but the same synths receive them just fine in Live 5, What is going on here, if anyone knows I would appreciate the help.

First, open a transport window. When you send a program change event with your MIDI controller, does it appear in the transport window's MIDI monitor (says "No In, No Out" when nothing is received nor sent).

I suspect you are victim of the new feature called 'Channel Strip Performances' (see New Features in Logic Pro 7.2). Technically it means that program changes sent on midi channel 1 are NOT passed anymore to the plug-in but used instead to switch complete channel strips. The other midi channels 2..16 are not affected.

What happens if you send program change messages on channels 2..16?

(Make sure that the AU plugins are set accordingly to receive on those channels)

Yes that works, i just have to re-do all my controller assignments. If I am to use Global channel 1 to switch Channel strip settings how would I do that?

Switching channel strips works globally on channel 1 by default. For more details read chapter 'Using Channel Strip Performances' on pages 35-36 of the help file 'New Features in Logic Pro 7.2'.

 

BTW, your experience shows that this new feature is quite problematic as it just overrides the conventional behavior of program changes on channel 1. No doubt the feature is useful but I think there should also be an option to disable it.
