9 Pin to 6 Pin cables or adapters., which is better?

Can anyone please advise as to which of these are better, cable or adapter?

 

Is there amy differences like loss of speed or data between a "9 PIN to 6 PIN" cable and or "9 PIN to 6 Pin" adapter Adapter?

I plan to connect a MBP to the RME FireFace 800 and then FF800 FW800 to a FW400 drive for now until i get a ext FW800 HD., if i should at all.
