Why is everything such a pain to move around?

Ok I've been using Logic for a good 8 years now and I just have once again one of these nerve wrecking moments with the terrible way the snap is made.

It's insane, I have one recording which isn't with a click / tempo and it's IMPOSSIBLE to move things around smoothly, I turned the snap OFF and it still SNAPS TO THE f$@%ing GRID. I already broke something out of frustration, when you have to save a recording by moving around thousands of notes this is unacceptable, what the hell.

I work from time to time with Pro Tools and moving regions around there is excessively smooth, how is Logic so terrible at this? I like Logic better for many other reasons but the editing things around has always baffled me.

I have already disabled the snapping and the point is to not have to zoom in and out constantly, all I want is for the damn regions or blocks to move when I start moving the pointer, it's really not that complicated.

Control-Shift just right clicks for me.

You stumbled upon one of Logic's many idiosyncrasies: turning Snap off doesn't completely disable Snap, so you have to either zoom in (which I understand you don't want), or use Control-Shift.

Control-Shift just right clicks for me.

That's because you press it before starting to drag the region.

start dragging the region and while you're dragging it press Control-Shift

BTW if you're struggling with basic operations like this in Logic Pro, may I suggest you consider buying my book: my goal in writing that book was exactly that, to remove all that frustration tied to basic navigation in Logic Pro! :D -> My Logic Pro X Book.

What do you mean struggling with basic operations? Have you read what I wrote? I CAN do it it just does not operate as well as other DAW. I've been using Logic as a professional for years, I'm basically just letting off some steam here BUT I was hoping there was a solution I had missed. Now I know that's just something they couldn't manage to build properly. I can't believe they haven't fixed this yet. And no, zooming in or dragging THEN pressing control-shift is never ever a good alternative but I guess you'd realise that if you weren't just trying to sell your book.

easy there. david's the most helpful dude on the planet, i guarantee he meant no harm. explore this forum and you'll see what i mean.

we adapt to our software, and logic (like protools, live, etc) has it's quirks. if you like the rest of it, you can adapt to the dragging thing...
