euphorion wave
Hey everyone, I am working with a Roland Jupiter 80, MacBook Pro on macOS 10.12, and I am using Logic Pro X 10.3.1. I got the Roland MK1 midi cable, installed the midi driver, and flipped the switch to comp. However, when I started to record onto Logic Pro X, the synth I played the notes on my Jupiter 80 rendered into a regular piano on Logic Pro X. There has to be a way to send the sounds over to Logic so that I can record in that sound and have it render that same sound on my mac and be able to edit the notes and whatnot. I am just so dumbfounded and lost, I've looked everywhere on how to do this but never got any help. Can someone please help me out?
Jordi Torres
Hi, For getting audio from the Roland into Logic you have two options: 1-Connect audio cables from the Roland's outputs into the inputs of an audio interface connected to your computer. 2-Use the Roland's integrated audio/MIDI interface and just plug an USB cable from it to the computer. Option 2 is probably easier. BE sure to read your Roland's manual for details. And just for clarification, your Roland MK1 midi cable can only deal with MIDI data. No audio will ever go through it. J. Thank you! But is there a way to make the Jupiter 80 sounds I've created on my keyboard into a fully editable, customizable sound in Logic? I did a lot of research after posting this topic and found that MainStage will do that but I have no idea how. I'm quite a beginner producer so any help is appreciated. J. Okay so I've been looking into this alllll day. I bought MainStage and did the AutoSampler. However, When I go to create a new external instrument, it doesn't give me the option for input even though I have my midi cable all hooked up. I went ahead and did the sample, tried to load it up in Logic like video said to, and it said it couldn't import the file. this is very frustrating, if you could please help that'd be great. Jordi Torres
Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by "fully editable, customizable sound", but now that you've mentioned Mainstage, you're probably be referring to the possibility of creating software instruments out of your Roland's patches. For that you could use Auto Sampler, which for now is a Mainstage-only plugin: http://help.apple.com/mainstage-effects/mac/3.2/#/lgcea3ff48ea EDIT: OK, I see you found out about Auto Sampler. J. Sorry, I can't help you much with Auto Sampler as I haven't used it myself yet. There are more Auto Sampler resources out there (like the official documentation I linked to in my previous post, for example). I guess you could try to follow the manual and then post specific questions in the MainStage forum if you het stuck. That way you'll probably get more help than if you requested a step-by-step tutorial. J.

I have my midi cable plugged in accordingly to in and out ports and then into my mac, however there is no option for any input when I go to create a new external sound. So I sampled the Bright Piano sound that I wanted to use in Logic, got the .exs file ready, and the sound files which were AIFF. But now, I have no idea how to import this into Logic. Do you know how?
MikeRobinson
As others have suggested, you could plug the audio output of your synth into an audio interface and capture your performance "strictly as a sound recording." MIDI is strictly for digital machine-control signals ... "Note on, Note off" ... and you can direct them to control any Logic software-instrument you wish. But, they are not sounds. The MIDI data stream captures "your manipulations of instrument controls," but not the consequences thereof. I don't know the equipment well enough to anticipate what role USB might play in any of this.

Try putting it in /Users/your username/Music/Audio Music Apps/Sampler Instruments/ J.
