How do I see what is stored on my SSD?

Recommended Posts

There's a great program called dasiy disk that does this exactly and also allows you to delete files. There is a demo available. It takes a bit to figure out the way it works, but I use it for just such things often.

Cheers

Hi KC :)

I just downloaded Daisy Disk, and here's what she said :   :)

1) Library 73.9 GB, which is composed of:

Application Support 67.9 GB:

a) Spectrasonics: 35.6 GB   b) Logic 15 GB     c) Garage Band   8.3 GB    d) EZ Drummer  3.5 GB      e) XLN Audio  3.2 GB   f) Universal Audio  1.1 GB  g) Digidesign  490.6 MB    h) Smaller Objects  473.1 MB

Since I don't use Pro Tools, I have no idea why Digidesign is on my Computer :)

Audio 3.3 GB

a) Apple Loops  1.3 GB  b) Plugins  1.1 GB  c) Impulse Responses 719.2 MB  d) Smaller Objects  11.5 MB

Caches 938.8 MB

Fonts 321.3 MB

Smaller Objects 1.3 GB

2) Users 45.1 GB, which is composed of:

Music 24.3 GB:

a) Logic 18.5 GB b) iTunes 5.7 GB c) Smaller Objects 6.5 MB

My question here is why is there 18.5 GB of Logic on my SSD when I record and save all Projects on my Portable Drive?

Library 7.5 GB:

a) Mail 3.7 GB  b) Caches 2.2 GB  c) Application Support 1.1 GB  d) Logs, Containers, Smaller Objects 252.6MB

Desktop: 5.7 GB

I'll stop at this point because there is a LOT of info :)

So now that I know what's on the SSD, how do I know what to safely delete?

Thanks,

Jerry

Mountain Lion doesn't tell you in Disk Utility, if that's what you're using.

 Do Do :)

I have some questions not related to this Thread :)

I see see several Yamaha HS Models that you use. What are the two in your Studio, what are the other Monitors, and which ones do you primarily use first for Mixing?

Thanks,

Jerry

Logic folder is probably alchemy and/or drum designer kits - do you have the additional kits installed?  I think full content for Alchemy is in the 14-15gb region.

I have Addictive Drums, Addictive Drums 2, EZ Drummer, as well as Addictive Keys.

The HS 5 are connected to a yamaha sub, so we use those a lot for mixing.

General listening and tracking we use the HS 8.

But it varies and we switch back and forth as well.

The Yamaha's are great!

I have LSR305's, and the ARC2 System.

As a general rule, as long as I know the JBL's, and I know the Room, should I have any excuses (Monitor selection wise) for not getting Mixes that translate?

You can keep digging down In Daisy Disk and find where the stuff lives. Once you know that you can make a decision about to keep it or not. What I've done, is do a search once I find something suspicious, and find out who put it there and why, and then delete as necessary.

If you don't have ProTools you can probably get rid of that stuff. A lot of times, if you install a plugin it will also install the VST, AAX,MAS and other versions, even if you don't need or use them. That's most likely what those are.

But again, dig deeper in Daisy Disk and do some investigation

Cheers

What are you thoughts about the LSR305 question I asked you earlier?

The reason I ask is because I've always been on the proverbial fence of the LSR305's with the LSR10 sub versus the HS5's and the HS8 sub.

As a side note, I'm using the 305's about 40" from my chair, and the bass IS there, no question, even without a sub.

 Last question tonight :)

Are they HS5's or HS50M's?
