Jagged MIDI Playback

Hi all -

I play EWI (wind synth). I have various software synths that I like to use, but I'm trying to figure out the source of an issue I'm having right now with MIDI playback audio being different and much more jagged than the original performance audio result.

Right now, I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with Synapse Audio's "Dune 2" and Dexed by Digital Suburban. I want to know whether it is a synth issue, or a Logic Pro X issue.

Here is sample A, the original audio recording result of what I played, which I prefer: https://soundcloud.com/mattmarantz/dune-2-audio-playback-test-a

Here is sample A, the audio from the MIDI Playback of what I recorded to Dune 2's MIDI track, which is jagged and wrong sounding: https://soundcloud.com/mattmarantz/dune-2-midi-playback-test-a

Here is sample B, the oirignal audio recording of what I played, which I prefer: https://soundcloud.com/mattmarantz/dune-2-audio-b

Here is sample B, the audio from the MIDI Playback of what I recorded to Dune 2's MIDI track, which is again jagged and wrong sounding: https://soundcloud.com/mattmarantz/dune-2-midi-playback-test-b-expression-cc11

I'm on Macbook Pro 2010, OS Sierra, Logic X, Dune 2.2, this problem is also happening exactly the same way with Dexed. So I am wondering if it might be a Logic X problem and not related to the synths, even though some synths are working correctly during MIDI playback n Logic X and some are not.

Please help if you can! Do I have a MIDI recording setting setup wrong in Logic X???? Something else? This is very frustrating! I'm trying to use these synths to compose and audition new patches for live performance so any help is appreciated.

All best,

Matt

I have confirmed that this issue completely goes away in Reaper! All synths (Dune 2, Dexed, Reaktor 6, etc.) function as they should while playing and while recording. This is frustrating! I do not want to use Reaper as my DAW, I want to continue to use Logic. Any ideas? Thanks!

I believe I have figured out the issue. Apparently, after scouring the web for clues from a different angle, I found out that there is a selection tab in the "project settings -> recording" menu called "MIDI data reduction." Why in the world this is even a feature, I don't know. Anyway, I unchecked that box, and the MIDI began recording correctly & the jagged playback performance issue is gone. So, thank you very much for your assistance!

If anyone else has this problem in the future, I thought I'd share a screen shot of the culprit menu check box. At "MIDI Date Reduction", you want to have that unchecked!

Cheers,
