Eriksimon
Could be an fx plugin or an instrument. Bypass your instruments one by one; if that doesn't change things, disable fx plugins one by one.
nev17
CPU usage has shot up after updating for me too. Unfortunately, I updated Sierra at the same time so not sure if that's causing the problem. I've had to up the i/o to 1024 to get through a very basic song without continually getting the CPU maxed message. I'm still getting it though, just not as regularly. I'll have to go back to 10.3.1 if I can't find a solution. Any suggestions would be appreciated. This shouldn't be happening with a two year old iMac. nev17
PS. The song isn't using any third party plugins or Alchemy.
skijumptoes
Try low latency mode, If that sorts it out, then look for which plugins have been disabled as a pointer in revealing the problem.

I don't know how kronik got on with your suggestion but I had already tried it before posting, to no avail. Low latency mode helps but isn't a long-term solution.
