Am I looking in the wrong place for plug-ins?

Hi all. I have just upgraded to Logic X from Logic 9, and also have a new computer, having updated OS from 10.6.8 to 10.13.2.

I see the plug-in BFD2 listed in Logic's Plug-in Manager under preferences, but don't see it available where I would expect to find it in a software instrument track (or a drum track), that is, in the select menu. The select menu is where plug-ins used to appear in Logic 9. Has something changed in Logic X? Where should my plug-ins appear as options to instantiate in a track? And if they should appear in the select menu, why don't I see BFD2 there, since it is listed in the Plug-in Manager?

I know this is a beginner's question, but I am truly stumped. Thanks for any help.

Jonathan
