Select instrument using keyboard shortcut

Is there any way to use key commands to select software instruments in Logic?

One common action I have to do is to create a new track then assign a software instrument plugin. I can use a key command to create the track, but after I've created it, it seems like I have to use the mouse to click to bring up the list of software instruments so that I can change it.

You can also select the instrument from the New Track dialogue box, but that doesn't seem to respond to keyboard commands either. I was hoping maybe I could tab to that control and use the arrow keys to browse through it.

The fastest way to call up an instrument via a key command (somewhat) is when you have your Plugins list open and if you have your software instrument saved in your Favorites, you can type in the first letter of that instrument to select it, then quickly hit Enter/Return. For example, to instantiate AIR Music Technology's Velvet electric piano software instrument plugin, I just hit the letter V and Velvet is selected, then I can hit Return to load the plugin. This 'first letter' trick works not only for any folders in your Plugins but also for every other menu in Logic. You can also navigate through the Plugins list via the Up/Down/Left/Right arrows.

OK thanks, I see that, it does help a bit. But I guess what I really want is a way to open that initial plugins list from the keyboard, without having to move my hand to the mouse or trackpad... Kind of frustrating if Apple doesn't give you a way to assign a command key to that.
