basic waveform question

I'm sure this is basic stuff so here goes:

I understand what I'm looking at when looking at an audio waveform in Logic. I realize the fishbone gets bigger-etc-with more volume. When I recently recorded a kick drum and looking at the waveform I see that sometimes the lower portion below the median of the transient dips lower that its above the median counterpart-ie-the lower is going lower than the high part is going high. Sometimes that low part goes close to the bottom whereas the top part is not close to the top. Is the waveform representative of the eq spectrum top to bottom as well?
