Because whatever MIDI data is routed to controller is reserved (hijacked) for that purpose, avoiding conflict with performance MIDI data flow.

To temporarily retrieve those hijacked MIDI data, you could disable the Control Surfaces in the Logic main menu (I think, sorry, not at the studio...)

Thank you! This is actually very helpful when I need to control multiple VI's in a Track Stack.

Are you talking about many Track Stacks (each including several instruments) or only one Track Stack (containing all the instruments to be Smart-controlled)?

AFAIK, the latter is possible, while the former case, I don't think so since Smart Controls are components included in a (summing Track Stack) patch preset, and that it is not (yet) possible to embed summing stacks into another one...

Have you considered including all your instruments into a single summing stack?

Another approach would be to use the Environment, but that is another story...

Just one stack. You mean it's possible to control all subtracks' smart controls simultaneously? I tried but couldn't get it to work.

I think that you have to set the Smart Control on the stack's master track. Smart Control has to be edited (changing/adding/assigning controls) accordingly...

Alright, I think I got the hang of it. Learn function for parameter mappings seems to work only for the master track, not the subtracks, so it takes a little more effort to map everything manually.

I don't know why I had missed the smart controls on a stack master. I thought I actually tried it, but for some reason the control area was empty. I must've done something wrong.
