Audio & Midi not in sync in some Smart Tempo Settings.

HI all,

My midi and audio is not in sync when working with smart tempo.

I record both midi and audio (mic) simultaneously.

On the midi track I tap a rhythm on a drumpad like a metronome and on the audio track I hum a melody.

Goal is to transcribe the recorded audio into midi on the tempo I tapped.

When I am recording I can see the start of the audio and midi track is in sync. When I stop recording both audio and midi move a bit and they are out of sync.

When Smart Tempo is Off or On the audio and midi stay in sync when I stop recording.

But when 'On + Align Bars' and 'On + Align Bars and Beats is selected the 'out of sync issue happens.

Is this normal?

This might be due to the tempo markers detected from your recorded audio.

Smart Tempo will normally align the first detected marker to the nearest bar (or beat depending of the chosen mode: On + Align Bars vs On + Align Bars and Beats).

MIDI is not directly affected by Smart Tempo. MIDI events will follow the musical grid and the tempo changes created by the Smart Tempo (as displayed in the Tempo global track).

Besides, quantization will affect the MIDI events position; although that might not be relevant considering what you describe in your post.

Thanks Atlas007,

It is clear to me now.
