Using Logic with an Outboard Compressor

Hi all,

I'm even struggling to formulate the correct question here but...

I've got an outboard compressor without a HPF that I'd like to send my full mix to minus the lows, at say 120Hz, for example (with these lows being available for processing on Logics master buss post compressor).

Is it possible to effectively create a HPF for my compressor within Logic please?

Can't think how think how to do it best/efficiently.

Thanks!

In my usual brutally honest opinion, the result that you may achieve will not outweigh the effort you will have to put into this to get this working properly. With that out of the way,

- route your entire mix not to the Stereo Out but to a Bus

- an Aux with that Bus as input will automatically be created

- put a Multipressor in that Aux

- set all eight Ratios to 1

- set the Crossover Frequency between bands 1 and 2 to 120Hz

- solo bands 2,3 and 4

- create a new Aux in the Mixer, with the same Bus as Input and option-drag the Multipressor onto it to duplicate it

- on that second MP, solo only band 1

- now you should hear your mix unaltered

- in the first Aux, put in an IO plugin

- set its output to where your external Compressor's inputs are connected

- set its input to where your external Compressor's outputs are connected

- click the Ping button

Now hope everything really lines up (you will have a hard time hearing whether everything really is in phase).

As I said, I'm not convinced you will get a better result than in the box.

OMG, I am staying in the box when you put it like that! But I agree with you fuzzfilth, the only time I use my outboard compressor (a UA 6176 channel strip) is on the way in, mainly for the pre amp + mild compression on bass guitar & vocals.

But yes, well worded!
