Hod
I installed Guitar Swell (In Session Audio) yesterday and it plays just fine in NI Kontakt. I can record it in LPX (10.5.1), using my Komplete Kontrol midi keyboard. The issue though is that I cannot record Guitar Swell using Kontakt's GUI keyboard. Guitar Swell has a row of keys on the GUI keyboard for playing "Custom Chords". I can play those fine using my mouse, and LPX plays them - LPX shows the volume in the volume fader and I can hear sound coming through my speakers just fine. However LPX will not record it. No midi data coming through. I have tried variations of Midi channel (Omni vs 1 etc) in LPX and trying to route the audio through a bus to an audio track - all to no avail. I am clearly missing something crashingly easy and obvious... Does anybody have any pointers? I tend not to dabble in the settings of Kontakt, but I guess the answer may well be buried there somewhere, perhaps? Thanks all. David Nahmani
That is normal. That keyboard isn't intended for recording. In Logic, for MIDI to reach a track (and being recorded in Record mode) it needs to be routed to the "Sequencer Input" object in the MIDI environment — and the Kontakt plug-in is after the Sequencer Input objects in the MIDI signal flow. Hod
OK, chief muppet here again. I have just figured out (glacier speed...) a workaround is to dive down 2 octaves on my NI physical keyboard and lo and behold, I can trigger the same custom chords that I can see on the GUI on screen. And LPX can now record the midi data. That said, is there a way of LPX recording me playing the GUI keyboard using a mouse..? Thanks. Hod
David - you are so good at replying and thank you. I don't fully understand your answer, but I will treat it as homework! Thanks. Hod
des99
No, the keyboards in plugins do not generally generate recordable data, they are usually used as visual indicators of the notes you play on your keyboard coming into Logic, or as a way to hear sounds for auditioning purposes. No one should record music by clicking a mouse on a GUI keyboard! You can always use Logic's "musical typing" window to generate/record notes too.
