exlogic
Hey there=) Long time no see... hope u are all doing well=) (got my first mac and firing up logic again..its been a while..lol - am i still butthurt that they left pc? ofc i am.. lol.. but eh... hours of the time;)) i survived the time using other daws - anywho, first mac, so i am new to this - still getting used to the keys being different..lol The issue is that the screen freezes (meters/playhead/whatever) - Everything else works... Logic does not becom unresponsive or so... its just the screen that freezes... Logic pro x 10.5.1 mbp e2015 16gb -Opened it up today and the playhead will move for about a bar and freeze.. -the meters are also frozen - if i click on screen with mouse, it moves again for about the length of a bar then freezes -everything else (including other daws work fine) What I did to try to resolve: -reset logic prefs -delete apple windows server plist -delete com.apple.logic10.plist (+cs) -reinstall logic -reset pram -changed audio to internal driver -with / without internet -re-installed mojave -re-Installed Logic -restore logic from time machine from when it worked -reboots -made a new account to test it with -some other things i cant think of now -- if i keep my mouse button pressed, the screen is fine and everything works/gui updates as it should... if i let go of mouse, the playhead/metering freezes in under a bar..-- Anybody know what this could be? (all other daws/apps on this system are fine...) Thank you very much for any ideas=) Have a beautiful day=)

triplets
What about the trashing Logic preference file?
Atlas007
Also worth checking in the Controller Setup window to verify if an undue controller installation occurs. That may happen when Logic senses certain incoming MIDI events. Which might come from various sources, such as faulty cable, improper drivers, or defective controller, etc... exlogic
Hey gang=) Thanks a lot for your solidarity=) triplets - I had trashed the preferences files (com.apple.logic10.plist - also the control surface file ) Atlas - I checked controller setup - only my remote sl active... nothing else in list Here is a visual demontration of the whole shebang... : (Im new to mac etc, so the text timing in vid may be a little hard to cope with... thanks for understanding;) (random audio:atomic rooster) https://www.dropbox.com/s/u63goavojdprv3u/logic%20gui%20freeze.mp4?dl=0 (download for a little better quality) Thanks again for any pointers=) Take care n much love=)
triplets
Is it a bluetooth Apple mouse?
exlogic
Its a bluetooth lenovo thinkpad laser mouse... (I cant seem to befriend those no button magic mice..lol) Good thinking though triplets! - i turned off all bluetooth from mac then used a wired mouse... but... same story... But dang, was that a good idea:) Thanks) Edited September 28, 2020 by exlogic
exlogic
Another observation - cpu at over 100% in activity monitor... (dunno if it means anything... as my cpu is actually not being taxed at all)
triplets
Do you have 3rd party plugins installed?
exlogic
Many... (All legit)
triplets
Many...(All legit) Well, let's try troubleshooting, shall we? Quit Logic Grab all the items from the Plugin components in Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plugins/Components, and put them in a Desktop Folder. So the folder should be empty. Launch Logic, and try again. If the GUI doesn't freeze, you know you have a conflict with a 3rd party plugin. The next question is obviously: which one? Put a chunk of the component files back and try again. No freeze, keep going. Get it? Once you get a freeze, you can narrow down the problematic plugin. If you get a freeze with the empty Components folder, you have another issue. Welcome to the world of deep troubleshooting.

exlogic
Yeah, ima hit up novation and see if they‘ve seen this before... (I only use it in midi mode anyway - no wrapped plugs or anything) - I just removed all components ,vst and vst3 from that folder... that wasn‘t it, sadly... again, thanks for the good idea I will keep you guys posted with the results once they are in... Thank you very much for your kindness and and and. Karma sent;)

triplets
Yeah, ima hit up novation and see if they‘ve seen this before... This was from 3 years ago: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=132694&p=677109&hilit=automap+freezing#p677109
exlogic
Have you tried "Disable All Controller"? yes I have... "Bypass all Control Surfaces" from the menu: Logic Pro X -> Control Surfaces -> Bypass all Control Surfaces (did not help) Good tip though, thanks! Yeah, ima hit up novation and see if they‘ve seen this before... This was from 3 years ago: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=132694&p=677109&hilit=automap+freezing#p677109 =) Ah close shave... But my mac is not freezing up.. everything works like a charm... apart from the screen refresh / visual feedback..lol... Thanks=) - I sent novation a mail . I will see what they say... - will report back of course;) (I have had nothing but phenomenal support from novation over the years btw... seldom needed but always know that they are there.. they are one of the best in that area - they will even still support gear from the 90s if it came out of their home... they will (via whatever channel) be there and unscrew your synth with you if need be - true story.. really examplary actually..lol Thanks again, you are really lovely=)

exlogic
Update: ok, the screen is moving again... *sigh of relief* (havent heard from novation yet - which probably means that they might also be stumped or crazy busy or both ... anywho..- it was only speculation that it was because of their controller script..) what helped after nothing did? I ran this app cleaner and had it remove logic (dunno why it worked since i already manually removed the files... ah well.. im not complaining) but, I noticed some weirdness in the logic menu after re-installing... maybe you can help me with that .. but first - here is what i did: 1. downloaded this app uninstaller : https://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/ 2. dragged logic from applications into the appcleaner 3. made sure all files were selected before pressing the remove button (the last file in the generated list usually isn't selected) 4. rebooted mac 5. re-installed logic. Screen moves again... yaay I did however notice that the menus in logic were a little different now. (these are the missing things that stick out like a sore thumb on first glance) 1. Logic Pro X menu -> there are usually a group of 3 preferences menus... 1)Preferences , 2)Control Surfaces , 3)Key Command Presets - the Control Surfaces menu is missing..lol 2. File menu -> *New from Template* menu is missing Dont need the templates and the controller seems to be working fine tho, so ..eh "shrug" - doesn't burst my bubble..lol ... -but still - weird , and, want fix if possible Would you happen know why my menus are incomplete after a re-install? Thanks a lot for everything Edit: nvm, solved=) - I had to go back into settings/preferences and activate "Advanced Tools"... oookkkkk=) back to basics/square one ..lool Thanks again-- You have been a tremendous help:) This forum and its members seem to be cool af *end of transmission*
