KeithJames
I'm restoring the best I can some reel to reel recordings I did playing the piano and singing in 1978. There is a good bit of distortion going on from too much input during the original recordings and overall there is unwanted fuzzy noise. I'm already been pretty pleased with the improvement I have affected through eq, reverb, stereo spread, picking a helpful compressor, but there are still a few sections with more noise and distortion static than I'd like to leave it at. Any overall tips on mastering out, filtering out, this kind of thing, favorite tools for this?
triplets
Try Izotope Rx to remove some noise. You gotta experiment to see what you get. No guarantees.
fisherking
izotope rx is pretty amazing (but not magic). i just did post-production/mastering of an album of piano pieces (recorded with a good mic, on an iphone), and dealt with mic thumps, static, overloads, etc... with RX. worth at least looking into.
