MIDI out permanently shows output

Hi,

I have a Novation Impulse MIDI keyboard. It is setup as a Mackie Designs / HUI / HUI model. In control surfaces setup, MIDI in and out are set to "Impulse HUI".

When connecting the keyboard the MIDI out always switches between "no out" and "1 C-2 0". When I play some notes on the keyboard (or on the piano roll), other outputs show up, e.g. "1 D-2 60" and after some time it is back to switching between "no out" and "1 C-2 0".

Here is an animated GIF which shows what's happening: lpx-midi-out.gif.9fe8697357b29b04f8aeb55c39b9157d.gif

Is this normal and expected behaviour? Why is Logic Pro sending output to the keyboard?

Thanks

Soeren

Yes, this is normal behaviour. The HUI mode requires sending a C-2 "heartbeat" note every second or so to confirm the device is still alive.

It's annoying, and Logic *should* hide all MIDI traffic on control surface ports and not show it on the display, but this doesn't work for HUI mode, so we have to live with it (unless someone can think of a devious solution.)

But it's normal for HUI devices.
