gsc1ugs
I would like to ask the question is it possible to run tracks and midi through another device that will play the wav file and all the midi dmx controls running the lights? or can this only be done using the apple macbook timeline within logic pro x>? David Nahmani
Yes, you could for example use an AKAI MPC.
gsc1ugs
Thats great, what is compiled out of LOGIC to go into this/? is it processed has one file?
David Nahmani
You just transfer the audio and MIDI files to the MPC and it can play them back in sync.
gsc1ugs
Is there any others like the AKAI>?
gsc1ugs
Is this a similar item? trying to keep it small compact or does only play midi? https://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/akai-mpc-element-is-the-most-affordable-mpc-ever-584308 The device also has to run the dmxis interface for all my lighting is this still possible with the akai MPC
David Nahmani
I'm not 100% sure. That's similar but that's an older device. There are newer models listed on the AKAI Pro website. You have to look up the exact feature set of the specific MPC you want to determine if it can playback audio alongside MIDI (and for how long etc...). gsc1ugs
MPC element connects to laptop, i was looking for a standalone that would play each file, at the minute i playback using the small mac laptop running everything in LOGIC PRO i was wondering if the newer versions are standalone, they seem to be a user control pad

Try the MPC Live II.
gsc1ugs
Is this not far from what i have already macbook air running logic? but not logic, which would be more stable in a live environment? i dont want the macbook crashing thats my whole point. after looking it the MPC Live II is way advanced for what i need, i basically need to load a wav file and midi and play it
David Nahmani
I have played live with MPCs and other hardware devices such as HD recorders, and I have played live with MacBooks running Logic. ALL of them are equally prone to crashing in my experience. Crashes are rare, but they can occur. If you play enough shows, you will have any of these devices crash at one point or another. Even major acts with mirrored backup rigs have experienced horror stories, it just happens, and the best way to deal with it is not to try to avoid it at all cost but to be ready for plan B when it happens. I mean obviously do everything you can to minimize the occurrences (for example if you go the MacBook route keep only the bare minimum running, only MacOS and Logic, nothing else, no 3rd party utilities or unnecessary drivers, plenty of free space on the SSD, no HDDs etc...) but be aware that whatever you do or whichever device you choose a crash could still happen. Just like a guitar player who can continue playing even if he breaks a string or a drummer who can keep going even if he drops a stick. David Nahmani
Right but just to make sure: my point was that the MPC won’t crash less than a MacBook running Logic.
gsc1ugs
so both equal?
David Nahmani
so both equal? Pretty much yes in my experience except maybe the MacBook is a little more fragile because of its form factor and large screen, which can also be an asset. Much easier to navigate and troubleshoot when something goes wrong at the last minute.

David Nahmani
That sounds amazing actually. Well it's up to you. The MPC is a little more self-contained, dedicated unit. The MacBook can add a "cool" factor on stage if you're into that. I guess it was more of a thing 20 years ago really. All I'm saying is, I wouldn't base the decision on potential crashing. But still a decision to make and for sure the MPC may be a little sturdier.
