Step sequencer for multiple instruments? [SOLVED]

Is it possible to have something like a Track Stack for a pattern where a single pattern region controls different instruments?

For example one sequence region would control the note C1 from Sampler, C#1 from Ultrabeat, and then D1 from ES2?

Here's what I tried, but no success:

Created a track stack with 3 instruments. On the Inspector for each channel strip, changed the MIDI channel to 1, 2 and 3, for each track.

Created a Pattern Region for the Track Stack with 3 rows. Set each row to a MIDI channel, mirroring the tracks Inspector.

Adding steps in different rows still triggers everything.

Yeah, that doesn't work, the midi channel setting in the inspector only "re-channelizes" all incoming midi to the set channel. It's only when recording to multiple tracks this setting "splits" the midi to the track with the corresponding midi channel... Hth, not sure I explain too clear I'm afraid.. :D

I would assume that since it's a track stack and the MIDI is coming from the main region on the stack, it would work as "incoming MIDI" as you mentioned?

I'm not an expert when it comes to MIDI (at least the deep knowledge of MIDI) so maybe I'm not really understanding why that wouldn't work... :/

I can always add a Scripter and limit the notes on each track. It's just a little more time and work. Wish it was implemented so we could work on a pattern, such as a drum pattern for example, side by side, using different sources.

Gonna send them the feedback about this

No, not in this case, the "Auto demix by channel if multitrack recording" is a recording (only) setting I'm afraid...

Ok...

I sent them my idea and some other 2 (such as being able to rename each row and vertical zoom using the Magic Mouse).

Anyway, so far I've been loving the new version with the Step Sequencer and other updates. Such great tools :)

Appreciate your time and help!

Sorry for bringing this thread to life, but I was able to achieve this with 10.6.3 today :)

You can do this by changing the step sequencer's row MIDI channel and then on each instrument track, add the scripter and load the factory's Channel Filter preset, assigning the correct MIDI channel there. Voila!

You can now use a single pattern region to control different instruments, but you can also use the Note parameter inside the step sequencer to change the pitch of a single instrument who's loaded with Quick Sampler, without affecting the other instruments.

This is also useful if you want to save that pattern as an Apple Loop, include the pitch changes, for later use.

Hope it makes sense :)

Check my reply above. I figure it out! ;)

Cool workaround for those who can't update to 10.7! Thanks for sharing!

You're welcome :)

And yeah, this is a great way of working with a single pattern region, which is a must, to me at least. And being able to save it as an Apple Loop, is great to create new loops and reuse them.

Here's the project file for those interested in checking it out:

Thanks :)

One thing I noticed though is that this doesn’t work when using the Drum Machine Designer. I guess it’s internally wired differently. But using the Quick Sampler it works like a charm :)
