AllTheButtons
Is there any trick I can use to force a plugin parameter to automate, if the developer has for some reason left it out of the automation list (and 'controls' view)? In this case, I would like to automate the 'Amount' slider in Ozone 9 Match EQ, which Izotope have inexplicably not made automatable. des99
No, you can’t automate a plugin parameter that the plugin has not exposed as automatable. Some plugins have a MIDI learn system you can use, but I don’t think iZotope have that feature…
AllTheButtons
Thanks, I suspected that was the case but worth checking. I don't know why they haven't exposed it. There are no artefacts when moving it. I think they just haven't realised that people use it for things other than mastering. I'd have thought it should be exposed to the Controls view if only for accessibility.
des99
Controls view is just a list of the exposed automation parameters with a minimal gui. It’s not a feature that a plugin developer needs to support or anything. Perhaps the lack of that parameter is a bug or oversight, rather than intentional…

AllTheButtons
Just wanted to chime in and say... you have a great new avatar AllTheButtons! Love it. Thanks! I've used it for years, and thought I was using it on this forum, until that recent post about avatars made me check and I realised I've been on here for all this time without it! It was the 'go' button on a long-lost coffee machine
AllTheButtons
Perhaps the lack of that parameter is a bug or oversight, rather than intentional… My guess is, as it's sold as 'mastering' software, intended to match the EQ of a whole mix, they didn't imagine that anyone would want to change it on-the-fly. In my case, I've received a vocal to mix where the tone is inconsistent, with some lines brighter than others, presumably because the singer is moving off-mic. So I've used one of the 'good' lines as the reference, allowing me to make everything sound consistent. Sounds great, and works perfectly when I vary the amount manually with my mouse, but unfortunately no way to automate it! Luckily I can automate the master bypass, which is good enough, although it's all-or-nothing.
AllTheButtons
I've got a new problem which seems closely related to this one so keeping it in the same thread... I'm trying to automate the Elysia Phil's Cascade plugin, but it doesn't appear AT ALL in the automation list. In the list of plugins, it's just skipped (see screenshots). Any ideas? des99
There seems to be a few reports of this, across varying plugins…
Sedorikku
Hi AllTheButtons, Maybe by checking the option "Automatically select the automation parameter in play mode" in the Mix scroll down menu and clicking on the parameter which is not listed (the Amount Slider in your case)? David Nahmani
Maybe by checking the option "Automatically select the automation parameter in play mode" in the Mix scroll down menu and clicking on the parameter which is not listed (the Amount Slider in your case)? Unfortunately, if the parameter is not in the list in the first place, then that option won't help.
JakobP
Anyone looked for the missing parameters in the Smart Controls "non-automatable" parameter list ? Maybe you could "fool" Logic by automating the parameter from smart controls instead ? Edited March 17, 2022 by JakobP
JakobP
Here's automating the "display select" parameter in Logics stock compressor, which is unavailable from the automation list...
AllTheButtons
Anyone looked for the missing parameters in the Smart Controls "non-automatable" parameter list ? Maybe you could "fool" Logic by automating the parameter from smart controls instead ? Fantastic suggestion, and it frustratingly *almost* works for the plugin that didn't appear at all (Phil's Cascade) - I can get the smart knob to control the plugin knob, but the smart control itself still does not appear in the automation list. When turning the smart controls knob, although it works, the mouse pointer turns into a 'prohibited' symbol (circle with a diagonal line through it). For the Isotope plugin, where it was just certain controls that didn't appear, it doesn't work at all.
JakobP
To make it "work", I had to set it to region automation, then set the track in touch/latch mode and wiggle the knob/button, no automation was created, but the parameter appeared in the track and I could draw in the automation with the mouse/trackpad... EDIT It's not needed to use region automation, just tried it successfully using track automation too... Yes! This worked! In fact it even works in Track mode for me! Thanks so much. Shame it doesn't work for Ozone but gets me out of trouble on Phil's Cascade. If Izotope and/or Plugin Alliance support get back to me I'll update this thread. The level of knowledge and help on this forum never fails to impress

AllTheButtons
You're welcome Yeah, edited my post, works here too using track automation You might have been right in the first place... it worked on track automation in the empty test session I set up, but back on the real session, it only works in region automation. Anyway, at least it works!
JakobP
Strange, I guess Logic doesn't like to be fooled...
AllTheButtons
Another quirk ... the automation still doesn't appear in the menu, so if you lose sight of it you have to go into touch mode and wiggle the smart control knob again to bring it back on screen. Definitely a duct tape solution

polanoid
The plug-in missing in the automation menu seems to be a new issue introduced in 10.7.3. Other manufacturers are affected as well (e.g., Omnisphere)

AllTheButtons
Just updating this to say that the issue has been fixed for Phil's Cascade with Logic 10.7.4 - it now appears in the automation menu as normal. The missing automation parameters in Izotope Ozone Match EQ, however, are not a bug, but were left out by the developer. I emailed them with a feature request but won't hold my breath!
