TimeForMusic
From my research it seems this is a pre-existing downfall of Logic Pro X. Every time I import an .AAF (after first having to add the audio files into the project), the regions are spaced apart in ways I cannot understand. Are others aware of the problem and has anyone found a way to resolve this, that isn't using Pro Tools?
fuzzfilth
From my research AAFs are always perfectly in sync unless the Project is set to the wrong sample rate and even then, at least the starting points of Regions are in their correct places. I never have to add the audio files manually, so there s something wrong with either your source AAF or your procedure.

I was given a video file with this, and importing that to my project prompts me to set the sample rate (48000 Hz) and frame rate (23.98) to match the film. I was given three files in the AAF folder: An "Avid MediaFileS" folder, an "OMFI MediaFiles" folder (this contains the .wavs), and a single .aaf file. In Logic, I go to File > Import >AAF..., and I navigate to the single aaf file to import. Upon doing so, 123 audio tracks load into the main window (only 12 of them, I will note, contain regions). Now, Logic plays the audio just fine (perhaps because I previously directed it to the source). However, before, it would not, and when I would right-click to "Show in finder" the audio clips from the browser, I would get a pop-up saying Logic could not find the audio. Even still, re-importing this all again fresh, all of the audio regions are out of sync with the picture (and each other, listening standalone). There are apparent gaps between 'chunks' of regions, and the regions seem more tightly spaced than they should be. I do not know what I am doing wrong here, though I have seen from other posts that others also encounter this issue.
fuzzfilth
a video file with this, and importing that to my project prompts me to set the sample rate (48000 Hz) and frame rate (23.98) to match the film. Yes, this is the first step, to establish proper time base. I also always import the video's audio track, just for reference. three files in the AAF folder: An "Avid MediaFileS" folder, an "OMFI MediaFiles" folder (this contains the .wavs), and a single .aaf file. This depends on a) the source application that created the AAF and b) the settings defining the export. If I export from DaVinci Resolve, I get a folder with all .wav and one .aaf file. There are options to also do an embedded export, where all audio files are included in that .aaf, and you transfer only one big file, but that tends to import less well. navigate to the single aaf file to import. Upon doing so, 123 audio tracks load into the main window (only 12 of them, I will note, contain regions) This is suspicious, but most of the time just caused by sloppy preparation from the video editor. Still, it is mandatory to report and ask if there is something supposed to sit on these empty tracks. Now, Logic plays the audio just fine (perhaps because I previously directed it to the source). However, before, it would not, and when I would right-click to "Show in finder" the audio clips from the browser, I would get a pop-up saying Logic could not find the audio. I'm not sure I understand. Does it only work on the second attempt ? The relative location of .aaf and .wav must not be changed prior to import, as the AAF file says something like this: "Go out of this folder here, find 'OMFI Media FIles', go into that folder, find 'audio#1.wav', put it at TC 1:00:02:21 with 4 frames fade in and 2 frames fadeout". If these paths can't be matched, the import will fail and the Regions will be offline (empty). re-importing this all again fresh, all of the audio regions are out of sync with the picture (and each other, listening standalone). This would hint at a sample rate mismatch, or that the files have somehow been SR converted during a previous import, or they are mistaken to be in a wrong sample rate when they're not. Does this happen with other AAFs from other sources too ? If not, I'd investigate the exact steps and settings from the video editor. You'd be surprised how little many of these folks know or care about audio. Likewise, others are so good at it it's scary. others also encounter this issue. Give links to these, maybe there's hints to solve your issue.
