crabbi
Hi, Please help. I am using Logic pro 10.7.3 on Monterey 12.2.1. Whenever I try to open a song I haven't opened in the last 12 months, maybe, Logic crashes upon opening (or not. as is the case ) I'm not Mr Technical, but here's info that may help; Project is on external drive, which works fine with most projects. Last time this happened, I watched the loading plug-ins & noticed the crash happened whilst Serum was trying to load. I updated it & this solved the problem. So this time, I did a screen capture and the point at which Logic crashes is trying to open Ultrabeat, which is part of Logic & not a separate entity? Attached is the crash report first page, which doesn't tell me anything, though I'm not sure how to read it, I'm just looking for clues. I have also dispensed with my iLok, which I couldn't locate since moving house. Thanks for reading!
crabbi
Another song quits at the 'Calibrating Audio' stage if opening Logic, but if Logic is already open, it crashes without showing signs of opening anything on the video screen capture. crabbi
I also get this (scanning Audio Units) come up whilst logic is opening, but it always gets through this stage & doesn't crash
polanoid
Crashes when loading some dynamic library (code, not content), so it would be good to see more lines of the crash log. Maybe it is possible to identify which library Logic is trying to load.
des99
If you turn Core Audio off (or start Logic holding Control, and choose to not load the audio driver), do the songs load now, or do they still crash Logic?

crabbi
Ah, but I've got no audio. When I try to select my audio output I get the attached message. I click Continue & it crashes again.

polanoid
Seems to be an issue with iLok. I'm glad I don't have to use that
des99
Hey, that worked! Thanks. What causes that? This is a troubleshooting step to try and find where the problem is. Now we know that the project itself isn't corrupted and crashing Logic, but instead, some third-party plugin is causing the crashing. Once the project is open, you can selectively remove plugins and then re-enable audio, to try to find out what plugins are causing the issue. Once you've found the crasher, then you can decide what to do about it. Note - there is a known iLok plugin issue which I don't know has been resolved in the recent update (5.5.0), but it's worth installing that just in case. The issue would crash random plugins and is quite nasty (there are threads here about it). So while a particular plugin (at random) might be crashing, it's not actually then *fault* of that plugin, as it was the iLok stuff overwriting the memory space of another plugin doing it. There are workarounds for this if this is the issue.
crabbi
We're making progress! I've taken Bomdrop out & the song now runs, so I'm trying to put a replacement sound in. but none of my software instruments show in the flip menu. aleos
Hi everyone, crabbi, did you figure out your problem yet? I have the exact same problem, and like you, I had my projects on an external disk. Now everything is messed up, and some projects open sometimes and sometimes no. Des99, I just did the 'hold control' trick when logic was booting up, and the project launched. I tried it on some others, and they launched too. So im relieved to know that they aren't corrupted. Thanks so much for that. Took so much weight off my shoulders. What is my next step in diagnosing the problem? Crabbi, what did you do next? thanks everyone. I'min a real tense situation with a 3 recording session coming up in on the weekend, and this Logic sickeness is giving me nightmares. !! Thanks A Edited March 22, 2022 by aleos

I just turned my audio on, for the project that loaded after using 'control' at start up, and everything works normal. 2 I just tried to do it again, enabled the driver, and Izotope Neutron (many instances on guitars and busses) is dimmed with exclamation marks. When I click neutron, Logic crashes. I don't get a dialog box, just a spinning beach ball and have to force quit. I will try to remove Neutron and see if that helps. (edit: I just removed Neutron from the plugin manager, and things are still broken) sorry for my ignorance, where can dig up the crash log for this? aleos
If I am to guess, it seems that it is not a plugin causing the trouble. As, different projects, that don't use the same plugins, both won't open. Now, after starting up logic without the driver, then opening one of the problem-projects, then going to apply the driver again, it crashes the moment I click "apply" in the preferences>audio menu. Hey Crabbi, I hope I haven't hijacked your thread. Sorry man. You resolved your problem? You found the plug that was the offender right? thx A
polanoid
Logic crashes. I don't get a dialog box, just a spinning beach ball and have to force quit. That's not a crash at all, that's a hang. No crash log here
polanoid
(edit: I just removed Neutron from the plugin manager, and things are still broken) I guess you need to remove the plug-in from the project entirely (not from the plug-in manager)

No crash log here Oh jeez, after all these years I’ve always incorrectly called it a crash. thanks for straightening that out. I suspect it is not the plugins, as I just opened another project with 8 instances of of Neutron, and things were running smoothly.
polanoid
I suspect it is not the plugins, as I just opened another project with 8 instances of of Neutron, and things were running smoothly. All that tells us is that Neutron does not seem to be the culprit. Are there other AU plug-ins used in the crashing/hanging songs? Also it's kind of weird that Logic displays the Neutron instances in your "hanging" song dimmed with exclamation marks as this usually means the plug-in is not available. Is that song using an older version of Neutron maybe?

Also it's kind of weird that Logic displays the Neutron instances in your "hanging" song dimmed with exclamation marks as this usually means the plug-in is not available. Is that song using an older version of Neutron maybe? Well, in the important projects that Ive been trying to recover, no, there was just Neutron inserted on audio tracks. But as Crabbi mentioned in one of his posts, it seems to be a bit random, in that, some older projects, certainly with other plugs, would sometimes hang as well. BUT, this just happened: I was looking at Console, as I started one of the projects prone to hanging, and as it hung, I saw a remark in console about “Maschine” and “Komplete Control” (from native instruments.). Although they are not used in the project, and they have passed AU verification, I decided to uncheck them from plugin manager, and now I have opened that specific project 3 times in a row. I will try to hang again to verify those plugs. But it doesnt make sense does it? They aren’t used in the project. (EDIT: no these plugs were not the problem. I just opened the project that I opened 15 minutes ago, and now it is hanging again thx for your sparing some of your time Polanoid to help me.
