Have only used TB3 so far with Macs running Logic. OWC is generally good with hardware add-ons for Mac and they support them. We've used this TB3 dock for over a year with Intel Macs and the dock has been on almost 24/7 for close to 2 years now. They do run a bit warm though. I'd bet they will have a TB4 model out soon (if you really need TB4 compared to TB3), e.g., https://www.owcdigital.com/products/thunderbolt-3-dock-14-port

Looking for a high quality dock for my new macbook pro m1 Max, is the one above good? or any pointers? many thanks.

Kerochan,

I have the OWC T4 Hub in your link. Just bought it about a month ago to use with my MacBook Pro Late 2021 (M1). It works great. I have my iLok, Waves USB, Apollo Twin and Apollo Silverface (connected via Apple T2-T3 Adaptor) and a LaCie 2TB Thunderbolt SSD all connected via this hub. The only thing I plug into MacBook is my HDMI monitor and the T4 hub. Very handy unit.

Regards

Thank you everyone, unfortunately I have just read of this hub not working with M1 MAX ! unbelievable !

Where did you read that? If it sounds unbelievable, it may be because it is? I asked macsales and they said the dock was indeed compatible with the M1 MAX.

Thanks David, it was last night, I don't remember where I read 2 people with M1 Max Macbook pros who said it didnt work, I think it was a You Tube review in the replies . Though it states on the OWC that it is compatible.

Its expensive and I don't want to waste money! If I could read of ANYONE who uses it with the MacBook Pro M1 MAX would reassure me, but I have found no one yet!

Another high quality dock would be fine, if I could find one that I know works!

Ok but 2 random anonymous people writing in a replies of a YouTube video that something does not work for them really does not mean that the device is not compatible!!

If I were you I would contact OWC directly and ask them (they have a chat box). If they claim it's compatible, that means they've tested it. It would make no sense for them to continue selling it as compatible if it weren't.

Thats a good point David

And a good idea to call them.

Though I still haven't yet read anyone who is using this dock with the M1 Max MacBook Pro!

Actually here are some mixed reports on this issue: some people reporting it's working while others are having issues: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/owc-thunderbolt-4-dock-not-compatible-with-m1-max.2320435/

Mmm, thanks loads for checking David. looks like most of the problems are with the the dock connected to the Mac Book Pro m1 MAX 16", which is what I have ordered.

In the mean time, I just spoke on the chat room with OWC and they confirmed that the Thunderbolt 4 Dock is compatible with the Macbook Pro m1 MAX!

I wonder if its anything to do with being in Europe/USA? I am baffled, and I am not sure what to do tbh!

OWC has an excellent return policy (30 days). Why not just try it and if it doesn't work, return it? As for cost, there is a lot of junk out there on the market, adaptors, hubs, etc.. that just don't work very well and will waste your time chasing problems. OWC is not one of these sub-par providers.

I think David's point about a few random reviews is well made, you have no idea who those reviewers are, what their motivation is, or even if they are a competitor trying to bash their competition. My M1 Mac works fine with the OWC T4 Hub and that Macbook is going to be similar in specification to the MAX as far as peripherals.

Thanks Mark

Yep, you are correct, we don't know anything about these reviewers, but David found a few reviews AND me also on different sites, all of the reviews said the dock works fine with the M1 Mac, but not the M1 Max.

There are many dodgy hubs, docks, adapters etc out there, you right about that, and I also believe that OWC are not one of them. I will think about, my new computer wont arrive till mid May,
