Best midi note assignments for DMD?

Drum Machine Designer delivers 161 kits and 7 percussion producer kits, but they all have slightly different midi note assignments in the grid! This makes using a LaunchPad X always a bit of a guessing game. Sure, C1 is always a kick and C#1 usually a snare, but the rest is a free for all. I'd like to have 1 custom mode on the LaunchPad X that I can use for all DMD kits. Is there a consistent pattern that Apple had in mind?

I want to record my midi drums, then be able to audition different Logic kits, but the hi-hats, cymbals and other standard parts have different note assignments from kit to kit. This means I have to copy the midi events in a track to a different note to get the right sounds - or - reassign the midi note of a pad in DMD. I've typically always created my own kits in DMD, but now that my library of kits is getting bigger, I'm frustrated having to tweak the note assignments. Is there a best practice here that I'm missing?

Perhaps using remapper scripts?

That's a fine idea, but same work as changing the midi note assignment of non-standard cells in Drum Machine Designer and just saving the kick like "808 Flex - Remapped"

The heart of the issue is that Apple's Logic DMD kits all have slight differences on the midi note assignments. Therre's no 'one fix' to overcome the differences, unless somebody on this forum has already done the work. I noticed Battery 4 consistently uses C1 - B4 and at least the first 16 assignments are always the same. In Logic DMD you can sort the Sort The Pads Chromatically, which can help, but them you notice the inconsistencies - like why did they skip F and G?

I love DMD and see no reason to use anything else. In fact, I think $199 for Logic for just Drum Machiner Designer and Q-Sampler is worth the price (or at leasst thats what I tell others).

The idea behind using the remapper scripts would be to use a given scrip for a type of mismatch, which remapper preset could be used again with another similar mismatch, saving you the ordeal of editing the notes every time. I understand that could imply having many remapper script presets to fulfill all the situation.

Note that a single remapper script could cover all the notes to be matched between the DMD preset.

Now for the rationale behind those inconsistencies, I have no idea… Sorry!

Thanks! I'm having another similar problem with a conflict between the midi mapping inside the Arturia Analog Lab V VST and the Logic | Preferences | General | Control Surfaces - "Auto" midi controller setting. Seems the Analog Lab leverages it's midi mapping for my Novation Launchkey MK3 the "auto" setting must be turned off, but then Smart Controls don't work for ALL the Logic and 3rd part VSTs that use Smart Controls! It's crazy.

So, I'm becoming an unintended expert on midi mapping.

Pretty sure the inconsistencies from Apple are an attempt to group similar sounds in DMD. For example if a DMD kit has 3 snares instead of 2, they tried to put them all together visually, but then the note assignments are a bit wonky. Unless you have the same number of kicks, snares, cymbals on each kit, it's impossible to have consistent midi note assignments. the remapper could be used to over-come the differences (as you said), but unless somebody out there has already found all the inconsistencies, I think I'll just change kits as I use them - fix as you go.

I think that there could be conflict indeed when the MIDI controller appears both in Preferences | General | Control Surfaces - "Auto" and in the Control Surface Setup window.IMG_0023.thumb.png.6e29dbccf466290723cb34762e6224bd.png

Congratulation!

That makes plenty of sense.
