Playback doesnt match recording

Hi, I have a delay issue that is unrelated to samples/low latency.

After recording audio to a song or metronome, playback will be out of sync. I can move the audio back manually but it makes playback a hassle.

I've tried two different interfaces, disabled plugins, creating a new project and restarting my Macbook. Nothing so far. I typically fix this kind of stuff with a Google search but I'm lost right now. People who experienced the same thing seem to be out of luck as well.

I'm in a recording session this weekend so help is much appreciated.

Thank you!

disabled plugins

Remove them entirely from the Channels.

Make sure Recording Delay is set to 0

I did remove them and when that didn't work I opened a fresh project only to have the same results. Recording delay is currently set to 0.

Thanks for the quick reply.

This is in an empty project, with no plugins at all? (Thereby taking plugin latency out of the equation).

Have you checked the recording delay setting, in case your audio driver is placing the samples at the wrong position?

I'd like to try it out. I tried find something related to this in Preferences > Recording. Where exactly am I supposed to look?

I recorded the click alongside a midi keyboard track and they match. The issue occurs while recording audio tracks.

Side note: I'm using a UMC1820 to record a drum kit and since I have the same problem while using my Scarlett setup (different cables and everything) it shouldn't be the interface that's at fault.

Here's the test you should be doing:

1. New empty project. One audio track.

2. Turn the click on during playback so that it plays through your speakers.

3. Record your speakers through a mic so you record the click as an audio track.

I tried it and it's the same story. Basically any audio recorded will be pushed forward a bit.

Your reported latency of 273ms is obscenely high for a buffer setting of 32 samples. If just for this test, make sure your input and output devices do not add any latency, and make sure no drivers are loaded only temporary, as indicated by the parentheses, actively select the input and output devices (no more parentheses). If you have a sensibly low roundtrip latency of, say, <20 ms, retry to record the click.

Yea? No idea how it ended up like that since it's been working flawlessly for the past month, but it's great that you found something I can work with. I'll get back once I've tried your theory.

Edit: It was the headphones. So obvious but I ruled it out because they worked before. Thanks to everyone for helping out. I'll be back with more stupid questions
