Can't get Logic Pro X to recognise the TalkBox with M-Audio interface?

Hi..

I just bought an M-Audio audio interface and a Talk Box . I have followed online videos, but i simplay can't get Logic Pro X to recognise the TalkBox... It's all linked up correctly, I select the Soft Synth, but how do i get them to 'communicate'? It's driving me crazy! The videos look simple, but they always fail at the tiniest detail!! Help!!!

Thanks

Oh, you mean an *actual* Talk Box? You were talking about soft synths...

This is nothing really to do with Logic. As it says in the blurb:

Quote

Setting up the Talk Box is easy. If you want a classic talk box sound, the effect needs to be placed in the signal chain between the amp and the speaker cabinet and use a microphone to pick up the modulated sound from your mouth. With combo amplifiers, however, switching between the amp and loudspeaker is usually not possible. Those using the Harley Benton Talk Box needn’t worry about that, though, as the Talk Box has its own integrated amplifier and is connected directly between the guitar and amp and can therefore also be used with combo amplifiers.

I'm not sure why you think Logic should "recognise" the talk box - this is an analog device, not a USB/MIDI one... you'd record it via your audio interface just like any other analog signal.

Yeah I know this...but you can use the softsynth in conjunction with the actual Talkbox....You can use the ES-M Synth with a Saw sound, and when you play the keys you have the tube in your mouth to control it...but I can't figure out how! As I said, the videos that show you how to connect and select the softsynth, it misses a part that CONNECTS them somehow.... Thats what I'm trying to figure out...

Ok, you need to route the instrument out of a spare output of your interface - so if you have an interface with four outputs, and you're using 1&2 for your main stereo mix, you'd set the output of that track to Output 3. Then you'd connect Output 3 of your interface into the Talk Box to route the audio of the synth there. Then depending on how you are using it, you'd route the output of the talk box or the mic'd up feed into an input of your audio interface, and record that as audio.

Thanks for the reply.  I'm using an M-Audio Duo Audio Interface. The video I watched the guy uses an interface with a single input, stereo ours..mine has two inputs, balanced Jack outs...I have no idea how to route what you said!! So far, I haven't needed an AF, i only bought it to mess around with the TalkBox....The video makes it look easy, bit it doesn't mention what you spoke about, ins and outs, routing etc!!

So frustrating.....

You don't know how to route audio in and out of your audio interface in Logic? Every track has an output setting, and that track gets sent to the corresponding audio interface output. However, if you only have two outputs, it's going to be difficult as you won't be able to hear what you're doing if you have to use those outputs to send audio feeds to external hardware (as your main stereo mix uses them both).

You really need a bit more I/O for this kind of use, or perhaps use an external synthesizer rather than a software one in Logic, to avoid the need to use up your outputs to route audio to the talk box.

No, i dunno how to route.

Check out what I said above:

You have the audio device set as Logic's audio input and output device in the audio settings?

  • David Nahmani changed the title to Can't get Logic Pro X to recognise the TalkBox with M-Audio interface?

OK, start here.

1. do you have a microphone plugged into an input on your audio interface? (this is never mentioned in the video, it's assumed you already know this).

2. do you have a cable connected from the headphone jack of your interface to the input of the talk box?

3. When you play a softsynth are you getting audio coming out of the talkbox tube?
