Mythos
I've just upgraded my setup to 7.1 using a Universal Audio Apollo X8 as my interface and everything works as it should for surround BUT... Now that the physical send for my subwoofer is a separate output channel, when I'm working on stereo sessions in Logic (with it's default stereo 2.0 output) obviously nothing is being sent to the sub and I’m unable to monitor low bass (my speakers roll off at around 40 Hz). Is there any way to get Logic to output 2.1 (stereo plus subwoofer) for mixing? Seems weird in this day and age if there isn’t, but I’ve been unable to figure out how if there is. One possible cheat would be to configure my session files as 5.1 but to turn off the rear and center channels in Logic so that only left, right and sub are engaged, but while that SEEMS to make sense there has to be a catch in doing it that way. This approach also doses’t really help when mastering. Any insight, suggestions or pointers appreciated.
fisherking
not sure i'm getting this. i have my eve-audio monitors connected to a sub.... the sub handles the lowest frequencies by default, the monitors handle everything above that. nothing i had to configure in logic, and works for any audio (ie with quicktime, spotify, etc). check your routing between your monitors and the sub... That's how I've had my configuration in the past, using the sub as a crossover, and it's fine for basic stereo monitoring, but for working in 5.1 and 7.1 low frequency audio is sent to the dedicated subwoofer/LFE (.1) channel, so the sub is no longer physically connected to the main speakers and no longer acts as a crossover. I want to be able to monitor the LFE while mixing in stereo.
