T0nt0
I have recently upgraded my OS to Catalina 10.7. I intentionally delay upgrading to avoid headaches with Logic Pro - don't change a system if it is stable and working fine. Since I upgrade my OS to Catalina I now have to jump through hoops to import mp3s: convert to wave files using iTunes and then import. Previously you could just drag an mp3 onto a track in the arrange area. QUESTION : does this issue go away with Big Sur and/or Monterey ? Should I upgrade my OS again, or are there other problems coming my way and I should just stick with Catalina. I run a simple home recordist system. I import mp3s very often to learn parts. thanks for any replies
David Nahmani
You should be able to simply drag and drop your mp3 file. Can you send me the mp3 file? I wonder if it has something to do with your specific mp3 file. How did you produce that mp3 file?
T0nt0
Reading through various threads, the Catalina-mp3 "speed up" import issue is a well known issue. It can be solved by upgrading to Logic 10.4.7, or my current work-around by converting the mp3 to a WAV file using iTunes. The App store currently offers LPX 10.7.4 which runs on macOS 11.5 or later. QUESTION: is it possible to upgrade to the earlier version of LPX 10.4.7 ?, without having to upgrade my macOS and all the hassle that would entail. No. You can download the last compatible version for your OS. But it might not work, the App Store is very picky lately. 7 minutes ago, T0nt0 said: the Catalina-mp3 "speed up" import issue is a well known issue. Not happening here, running Logic 10.6.3 with Catalina 10.5.7.
fisherking
never had an issue importing mp3s into logic. anyway, if you need it, there's always apps like this (i use it a lot for quick conversions, ie wav>mp3 or vice versa), a freebie: XLD
analogika
Has this ever not worked? I cannot recall ever not having been able to do this in the past twenty years…

I haven't had this problem myself but there have been many reports of users struggling with importing mp3 files into Logic. I'd love to get to the bottom of this issue so that we could help them. analogika
Sorry — I didn’t mean to discount the reports that something was broken. Obviously, it’s not working properly for some people. I was responding to the question whether the functionality had been removed.
