Stereo plugin sounds mono

Last week I bought bx_bluechorus2 from Plugin Alliance. Now I have a strange experience: in vain I add a stereo instance of this plugin to my effect chain, I get mono output. I have checked it with a goniometer as well, the signal sounds mono. If I add any other kind of chorus effect to the effect chain (UAD CE-1 or Dimension D, etc), it sounds in stereo without any problem. I have raised a support ticket at PA but unfortunately I haven't received any answer yet.

Any idea would be greatly appreciated to solve this issue.

Thanks!

Turn the mix control fully left - you should hear the original stereo track if you've placed it on a stereo signal. It works here as expected, and it doesn't turn a stereo signal into a mono one...

Are you sure you haven't force inserted it as a mono plugin?

Yes, I'm sure. Please find the attached screenshot.

Hmm, I don't see that behaviour here. Can you try on a simple empty test project, with just that plugin on a stereo track - do you still get the same behaviour?

Also - what version of the plugin are you running? Latest is 1.10.1... And if you could answer my question regarding the mix control - do you hear a mono signal or a stereo signal when the mix is fully 0% wet?

Here's a stereo test oscillator panned from side to side, with a meter, then bx_chorus, then another meter:

I tried it in a new project on a single stereo track as you asked. I added a stereo piano loop and added only this chorus plugin. If I turn Mix 0% wet, the signal remains stereo, it works perfectly. If I use it on a stereo guitar input signal, the chorused sound will be mono. This makes no sense..

I use the latest plugin version, 1.10.1.

Ok, so the dry stereo is going in...

I'd say the image collapses a bit, there may well be crossfeed between channels of the chorus possibly (this is the first time I've played with this plugin), so with the chorus faded in the sound may not feel as wide - but I definitely don't get mono here (as demonstrated in the video above.)

Hi David,

Sorry for the late feedback, I was too busy. I did that experiment and I got the same result as des99. What I think now that although I use this plugin in stereo mode, it has really poor stereo effect, actually sounds like a mono plugin. There is no real and wide stereo image. Comparing to UAD's CE-1, the difference is so huge. I think I will ask for a refund. Moreover they haven't reacted to my support ticket either.

Got it, thanks for updating this with your findings. Hopefully they'll honor the refund you've asked and you can find a better plug-in for the task. 😀
