ale lopes
Hey guys, I've been experiencing an issue for a while and I just can't find a workaround. Very often while importing an audio to a session, the region option "Flex tempo and pitch" turns on. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I'd like to have it always off. What means importing the audio with no tempo change or auto adjust to the project grid/tempo/pitch. I've checked the settings on Smart tempo and it's all set to off. On my last try I changed the project sample rate to match with the files I'm importing (44.1 kHz) but still with no luck. Any thoughts? Do you guys think it's a Logic bug or there's just something I'm missing here?
Atlas007
Project settings presents options on a per project basis. Meaning that every time you create a new project the settings will either be set as (factory) default or as they were saved in the project’s template you’re starting your project with. I don’t recall having faced such an issue, and I’m not at the studio to verify if this would be a viable solution but have you tried using a project template with the Smart Tempo (default Flex & Follow) all set to off (even though they already appear as such)? Have you tried unticking and ticking those options back again before saving the project template as desired (for future uses)? BTW, which Tempo Mode are you using (Keep, Adapt or Automatic)? Does changing same has any influence in your issue? Edited July 7, 2022 by Atlas007

I tried changing the Tempo mode from Keep to Adapt, still the same issue. I also tried importing the audio file via "import audio", loop browser and straight from the finder. Didn't work. I have the same audio settings from the file on the project, 44.1 kHz 24 bits. One thing I noticed, if the audio file is very short, like a clap sample, then it doesn't happen. If the audio file is a little longer, every time I import it, Follow Tempo is automatically set to on.

If you start a new empty project (File > New), create one new audio track and drag and drop an audio file, is Follow Tempo on?
polanoid
Strange. Don’t see this here. Can you post an audio file for which this happens?
polanoid
Also, does it make a difference how you import the audio into your project? Like, do you drag it from the finder into the Tracks Area?
polanoid
Also, which Logic version are you using?

The audio track has Follow Tempo set to off, as soon as the audio is imported to the track, the Follow tempo gets on.

ale lopes
@polanoid Doesn't mater if it's imported, dragged to the session or even through the Loop Browser. Looks like it happens randomly, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I noticed that with very small files, like a clap sample, and long files like a whole song, it doesn't happen. But somewhere in the middle is the problem.
polanoid
hm. yeah. Loop Browser. The one that contains the Apple Loops. Seriously, Apple Loops are imported with Flex & Follow on, yes. That's the whole point of Apple Loops.

Same here when trying with your file (the zip downloaded just fine, I'm using Safari in case that helps. Still no dice when trying to download the originally uploaded file). @ale lopes I have no idea why this doesn't work the same on your machine. ale lopes
That's super weird, right? I thought I was missing something on the settings. I'll try doing a full reinstall of Logic. Thank you for your help.
David Nahmani
2 hours ago, ale lopes said: That's super weird, right? I thought I was missing something on the settings. No, that's not super weird. Every issue we've ever helped resolving on this forum has been resolved through careful troubleshooting, going step by step, until we find the culprit. An issue always seems weird before you've completed all the troubleshooting steps and found the reason for the issue, at which point it no longer feels weird. So far we've established that neither Polanoid nor I can reproduce your issue, so there's something you're doing that's different from what we're both doing. I don't think reinstalling Logic will change that. It's possible that the metadata of your audio file may have changed when you uploaded it here. The best would be to compress it (Control-click the file in the Finder and choose Compress) then upload the .zip file here. Where did you obtain that file? It's possible that it's a loop with embedded tempo information, supposed to follow the tempo of your Logic project.

It's not happening only with that specific file, it happens with different files. That one is from a sample pack, I'm sending it compressed. That might be the case. How do I know if the file has embedded tempo information? SS_BR_Fill_01.wav.zip
ale lopes
So, I'm not sure if there's another workaround for this, but in order to know if the file has metadata or not, I went to the Untagged Loops tab. I'm assuming that files with tempo information would have the tempo mentioned and the files with no tempo information would have the dash "-". Make sense? I've imported to project the files attached bellow, "Kick Swedish 5.wav" and "PLOD KICK.wav", both of them have tempo info described on the Untagged Loops tab. Result: The file "Kick Swedish 5.wav" didn't turn on the Flex & Follow option, but the file "PLOD KICK.wav" did turn it on as soon as I imported to the project. So we have two files that apparently look the same with different results when imported.
