"Follow tempo & pitch" always on when importing audio.

Can you explain which steps exactly you're taking to reproduce this behavior?

@ale lopesalready posted a video how he does it (quite straightforward, dragging the file from the finder into the tracks area in a newly created empty project), but I'm doing exactly the same here and don't see the behaviour he describes.

Yes, the video shows exactly how I'm doing it.

Don’t know if its related in any ways but here’s some observations:

In your video, Your project is set to 44.1 and 94 BPM. When you drag your file SS_BR_Fill_01.wav in, Logic is silent, as if the file sample rate is  indeed 44.1 KHz and its tempo is indeed 94 BPM.

The thing is, If I drag your file here, Logic pops up and ask if I want to convert the project to 48KHz and import its tempo information which is 119.3397 BPM.

Is your empty project a template by any chance?

Have you tried deleting your preferences file yet? Sorry if that was mentioned before, the thread becomes quite long and browsing a thread is very difficult on a mobile device with all the ads and automatic scrolling going on

No, I haven't. How do I do that?

delete the file /Users//Library/Preferences/com.apple.logic10.plist

or rather move it to a safe location so you can restore it if necessary

Hey polanoid, thanks for your help. I just did it and is still working the same way. I've noticed now that it's even changing the gain of the region to a lower value as soon as I add the audio file to the track.

Sorry for the delay. I just tried it out and it worked as expected. Flex & Follow kept off and no gain changing.

No problem! Lets try on your side what I did here:

  1. Create a new project.
  2. Create an audio  track.
  3. Use the internal a audio and mic if you use a Macbook.
  4. Record a short vocal “This is a test” or anything you want.
  5. Select the region, right click and choose “Export as audio file”, choose the desktop, name it AudioTest and click export.
  6. Close the project.

Create a new project and drag AudioTest file in Logic.

Now, is Flex and Follow turned on?

When I imported the audio I've just made, Flex and Follow kept off. Then I imported an audio sample from a pack and it did the same as before, turned on automatically.

Ok. Now test your loop(s) in Garageband and see  if Follow Tempo & Pitch is enabled.  If so, which shouldn't be,  I would try using Logic and your loops in a Guest user account

  1. Place some of your loops in your_user_account_name>Users>Shared folder
  2. In System preferences enable the sharing of the Shared folder and create a Guest user account
  3. Launch Logic and test your loops. If it works normally, then your main user account is corrupted given that nobody in this thread have any problems using your loops. So, please reinstall MacOs. If it's still a problem using a Guest user account, well try to reinstall MacOs anyway.

Thinking of it…

Another thing you can  do to avoid reinstalling the MacOS  is try to convert your loop to an audio file. That way, transients informations and other metadata will be removed and you’ll get a standard audio file.

To do so, drag the loop in Logic, select the region, right-click and choose Convert>Convert to new audio File(s), change the format to AIFF, choose a location and  click Save. Drag or import this file in Logic. Flex and follow will be turned off.

Thank you for your response. I've tried as you said but that didn't work.

I still didn't have the time to pause everything and reinstall MacOs, but I did notice something different...

The audio files I'm importing are 44,1kHz. That being said, If I have my project set to 48kHz, then the audio files I import have the Flex & Follow on every time. I noticed that when I turn it off, the audio region get back to the original wave form, but the audio played is still the stretched version of it. When I have the project set to 44,1 kHz it doesn't happen. On both sample rates I get the imported audios with the Flex & Follow always on though.

Any news here.

im struggling !!!

Still having the same behavior for me...

It's not every time, but most of the times when I import a new audio file, I get the "Flax and Follow" set to ON, even if I've setted it to OFF before. Also when I turn it off after adding the audio file, I get the look of the audio region changed to the original size, but the audio played is still from the previous/changed audio.

What I'm now doing to avoid it is turning on Flex mode for that track and turning OFF the "Flex and Follow" option. That's the only way I found to play the audio as it is in the original file.

Not very practical but it's how I'm working that out.

Check:

  1. That your project tempo mode is set to KEEP (below the bpm value in the LCD display),
  2. That under File > Project Settings > Smart Tempo, the default Flex settings are both Off?

I have tried everything... its very wired. and not practical exactly . my work around has been, to for instance, resample the audiofile in RX10, then export the file, and then drag it in to logic.

btw, all samples/audio files, that causes this problem has this weird looking icon in the top right corner. (not stereo, not mono, maybe dual mono??) i will attach a picture, before it has been resampled and after. (just a random loop from splice in this case)

in this case (as written) its just a random loop from Splice.com, dragged directly from splice.

it hasn't always been a problem (the follow tempo problem) with files from Splice...

Anyway. The problem is, that it is not only files/loops from splice as in this example, it also happens with other audio files as well. And either or, what im seeking help with, is how to make logic stop this behaviour. i have literally tried everything.

every audio file that has ever caused the problem, looks like that.

These are loops, either Apple Loops or Untagged Loops: they are meant to be automatically following the tempo of your project.

Where did you get these files? Did you index them in the Loop or Untagged Loop browser?

ohh, was it the symbol you meant, when writing "these are loops" ??

Some files, such as this one, are tagged as loops (and meant to automatically adapt to the project tempo), while others are not.

You can't stop that behavior if the files are tagged as loops, which is the only case when Logic behaves this way. You would have to convert them to another file type to make sure they're no longer tagged as loops, as you've done before. You can do it with Logic (Control-click the region and choose Convert > Convert to new audio file).

Stereo looping file. It's supposed to look like a dual loop-the-loop symbol.

Yes, this symbol indicates they're loops that automatically match the project tempo.

Yes! 🙂
