fisherking
ok, did it, upgraded just now (from monterey). ventura public beta 1. here's my first report: my roli lumi will not connect thru bluetooth; will figure that out later. i plugged it in to usb, opened my main logic template, and... so far... EVERYTHING WORKS. everything opened. every synth (basically, massive x, spire, dune3, icarus 2.5, vital, equator2, plasmonic, diva). effects (mostly checked the fabfilter stuff; izotope seems fine too). my drum plugins (atlas2, roli drums). need to spend some time with the OS, of course; logic was the very-first thing i've looked at. but happy to see this (i've been thru some seriously-difficult beta moments). bodes well for the formal release in october 👍 EDIT: my cme xkey air works over bluetooth, so will let roli know about the lumi issue (not an apple problem).
des99
Good news - yes, it seems I haven't seen much foundational changes under the hood that would break stuff, so it's good to have someone (you, of course! ) check it out and back that up. Out of interest, what version of AUval ships with the Ventura beta currently? ("auval -vers") Still 1.10.0, or is it a later version? des99
Ok, so no changes there so far, which will also be good news for plugin compatibility... Edited July 12, 2022 by des99

fisherking
FYI, read a couple of reports of ppl saying ilok won't load (i abandoned my ilok plugins a few years ago). so... not sure, but it's worth noting. "Software Component Unavailable. A background component required for iLok License Manager seems to be unavailable. If rebooting does not fix this issue, please visit iLok.com to download and run the latest License Support installer." am sure it will get sorted soon (apparently worked in the previous developer betas). xgman
same here. more or less like a point update as far as compatibility. At least way better than the usual early beta mess. ilok gave me some early problems but seems to be working now.

kerochan
Great to know, but I thought Monterey 12.5 was the next OS?
des99
That's the next (and probably last) update for Monterey, the current OS. The next OS will be released in October-ish, and is macOS Ventura - that's what's in beta currently.
xgman
ilok issue was in VAR/TMP folder where it places temp startup files. Not sure why since there are two other launch agents/daemons places it also places files. But, I was having to reinstall ilok manager on every reboot. I had gotten to the point of placing the install file in login items to remember. But at some point, for the last few days, it has magically started be accessible without reinstalling ilok manager every reboot. in any case, if anyone has ilok manager trouble in ventura, try reinstalling the manager, and opening it without rebooting, and it should load and then see your licenses as normal. I'm on a Studio M1. Edited July 13, 2022 by xgman

The next major upgrade coming this fall is macOS 13 Ventura. Apple just released the first public beta a couple days ago. Not for any but the most adventurous souls and obviously not fit for production, but those very adventurous souls can install it at their own risk to give us an idea of what lies ahead.

xgman
Yes, I agree. Remarkably stable for the daily audio stuff. I had to check "about" this mac to be sure it had updated to Ventura. I'm sure there are a handful of things that don't actually work on it yet, but for an early beta, way way ahead of anything we've seen in years past.

Fair enough. I wouldn't *dream* of installing a beta on my production machine. I've been bitten badly enough by released updates in the past thirty years. The idea of some bug in Mail wiping my IMAP server or a defect in iCloud synch deleting all of my passwords or contacts (the latter was actually an issue in a Public Beta release at some point) is definitely a show-stopper for me. Nevertheless, I am glad to hear that there will apparently be very few issues to look forward to.

It's ok @fisherking treats running bleeding edge betas as a sport, and finding ways to keep working while dealing with many unexpected issues is something he finds fun. He's weird like that - but his feedback is useful..! 3

KC
@fisherking - I knew you would be on the beta!! thanks for your reports over the years. I am nearly jumping on the FisherKing bandwagon and diving into Ventura. Most of my mission critical work is behind me for awhile, so I believe I am safe. The one piece of software I use somewhat regularly, (though not a deal breaker) that seems to not work yet is Audio Hijack. But I am looking for a bit more spice in my life, so maybe I'll take the leap.

KC
@fisherking, Do you work with notation at all? I’ve been doing a lot more in Dorico than Logic these past many months. Just curious if you’ve tried that. (I can’t recall, but I seem to remember you not using notation software outside of Logic) cheers kc Edited July 14, 2022 by KC

fisherking
this is the only bug i've encountered so far, and it's pretty minor (xgman, are you seeing this as well?) just the way the start and end points show up in the bounce window (but it's not stopping me from bouncing). anyway, reported in the beta feedback app.
des99
Out of interest - as this seemed to happen with Monterey - if you hover the mouse over a latency-inducing plugin insert in Logic in Ventura, is the value correctly reported, or is it just rounded to 0 seconds as it is in Monterey?
fisherking
just checked some obvious latency-inducing plugins, so... seems to be working: ozone 9 maximizer shows 5039 samples = 0.1 secs RX8 de-clip shows 21385 samples = 0.5 secs Edited July 16, 2022 by fisherking
