Hi! just new here and new Logic Pro User.

(switch from Logic 5.5.1 PC)

So logic pro use node to distribute audio in ethernet, but i would use Firewire , i have a Mini mac (for live) near me and G5 (for node). i've heard that it's possible.

If one of You could answer me!

I think the node protocol is strictly gigabit ethernet, ByPass

 

It *does* however work, after a fashion, on 100-base-T but the

gain is not worth the pain, if you get me.

It works in Firewire but it's really limited. Firewire is much slower than Gb Ethernet and it kinda defeat the whole purpose of using nodes. Why not use an Ethernet cable? Both your mac mini and your G5 have an Ethernet interface!

OK. So if I am understanding. I can hook my G4 to my G5 thru the ethernet port and then my dual 2.0Ghz becomes a5.4Ghz machine, because the G4 is a 1.4Ghz???

 

I've looked thru these manuals, but I'll admit it. I'm confused. Help....

It's not that simple. Two cars running at 100mph don't equal one car going at 200mph. But you can distribute some of the processing used by the plug-ins in your session to the Node computer. According to Apple specs, the Node computer should be a G5, so you should use your G4 as the main computer.

 

But there have been reports of people using G4 Nodes succesfully.
