Nunstummy
It's rare that I use my XP30 external synth, but Im opened an old Logic project and I have an odd issue. I have 5 tracks, all assigned to a Multi-Instument in the Environment that I defined at the time. Each track is assigned to Midi Channel 1, Midi Channel 2, etc. But when I change the bank/patch on say track 1, it changes the patch for ALL! At this point, I can't seem to play different patches on different tracks. Not sure if there's an exclusive setting or something on the XP30, but I don't think it's the synth, because on the synth, I can assign different patches to each 'part' without issue. It seems to be something in Logic.... In fact... let's say I change track 1 - assigned to Midi output Channel 1 to '64 Voice Piano'. Play track 1 and YES it's piano. Then select track 2, Midi Output Channel 2 and although it says 'Whirly' I hear 64 Voice Piano. When I check the LCD display on the XP30. Part 1 is '64 Voice Piano' and Part 2 is 'Whirly'. It's as though Track 2 in Logic has suddenly switched to sending the midi to Midi Channel 1.
Nunstummy
More sloothing... I opened another old project that I know had XP-30 multi tracks with different patches. The enviroment instruments look like this. Note: the Midi In Port is my mt4 Port 1 (which is where the midi out --> XP30 midi in) as expected. However, when I add a new External Midi track... It automatically creates a NEW multi-instrument object. Instead of using the XP_30 multi-instrument that already exists for that port. Why? Also, I'm playing around with bank and patch control, then checking the results on the XP30 by looking at each 'Part' and what patch gets assigned. With this older project {perhaps pre-Logic 9}, anything I send on midi channel 2 - 16 doesn't seem to change the bank & patch. Only midi channel 1 accepts bank & patch changes. This might indicate there's a setting on the XP30 that allows/disallows bank & patch changes per midi channel - or - is that a setting in Logic? You actually need to set the MIDI Out Port to mt4 Port 1. 18 hours ago, Nunstummy said: Then select track 2, Midi Output Channel 2 and although it says 'Whirly' I hear 64 Voice Piano. Let's check what MIDI channel the notes actually are when Logic is sending them out from track 2. My guess is they're sent on channel 1 - otherwise that likely means your synth is in the wrong mode. But first check that you're seeing MIDI Channel 2 in the MIDI Out monitor in the "Custom" LCD Display in Logic:

Your intuition is bang on. Regardless of the MIDI Out Channel assigned to the track, the LCD confirms all notes are sent via Midi Channel 1. In this example, the track is assigned to MIDI Out Channel 3, but Logic is actually sending the notes via channel 1. I'm confused, but here's a clue... In the Environment I can assign a keyboard object to output Midi Channel 5, confirmed in the input view. But the LCD shows Midi Input Channel 5 and the same note Midi Output Channel 1.
