j.loop
Hi! Any ideas, how to creat this samba-effect/sound? I did try to find something very similar from UltraBeat sounds, but I can't seem to find anything (not even from the Latin kit). Here is the sound that I am after... Any ideas? ScottyM
I listened to the sample and I think it's from the Sergio Mendes "Brasilero" CD's opening cut. Go to iTunes and check it out. It's the first song. DO NOT turn it up loud at the beginning as the track starts REAL low but will kill you when the rest of the percussionists come in. There's a bunch of great isolated percussion on this CD. If you have issues, look for Brasilian Samba Schools or Carnaval samples. They're all over the net! Good luck
DaniGordon
Well, if it's a brazilian samba school effect you need, you will have to buy some brazilian percussion instruments. Surdo, Tamborim, Repique, Tarol (also called Caixa)... And have 300 people playing those instruments together. OK, 3 or 4 doing overdubs might work as well... There are some brazillian samba school's loops around too. Good luck!
j.loop
Thanx Hmm... Surdo, tamborin, repique and tarol? I should layer them together, is that what you mean?
DaniGordon
Thanx Hmm... Surdo, tamborin, repique and tarol? I should layer them together, is that what you mean? Yeah. You have to have all those instruments playing the part together. The best is to have 3 or 4 guys playing together, as the little imperfections in timing and the little flams are responsible for that kind of sound. And they could do 3 or 4 overdubs. Or have one guy recording overdubs with each instrument. Or try to find a samba school loops and hits. There are some around. Be careful with software instruments of those real instruments. They can be very unrealistic and cheesy.

j.loop
Hi SammyMac... Did you manage to find that tutorial you mentioned?
calvin200001
If you are talking abou the synth sound... i think you can use a drum track to sidechain on a noise gate plugin that is located on a synth sounding track to get that syncopation effect without loosing the overall background noise of the synth
j.loop
Errmm... I think the samba hit isn't made by synth? Or am I wrong... Or did I get your message totally wrong?
calvin200001
Samba is characterized by a syncopated 2/4 rhythm with a muted beat I don't know if that is referring to the drums or the syncopated synth either...I was just throwing that out there. but yea he does mention the latin kit in his post...so I'm probably not hitting on the correct part of the arrangement.
