keano12
I am trying to understand why some audio interfaces have monitoring. I know there is no latency and you don't hear FX in the DAW. But since Logic has Low Latency Mode which I leave on by default is there any pros to having this? I know it is easier to adjust volume between mix and input on the interface which is nice. But any other pros? I am want to buy a new interface for portability. Motu M2 (no input monitor mix) vs M4 that does. If recording vocals can't I add a gain plugin and remove after? Will it be backed in if I clip? Edited February 11 by keano12 adding more

Low-latency mode can disable all sorts of things and make your project sound completely different. Depending on the nature of the project you might not notice any difference at all, but in other cases various kinds of processing may be disabled, and entire parts might even disappear. So, in some cases it can be useful to have an alternative to low-latency mode for monitoring.
