Little Fat Bloke
So frustrating! I keep getting the message 'No Signal' when connecting via HDMI. Apparently this is something that happens a lot, not just LG stuff. I can't get the monitor to recognise either my mouse or my keyboard so I'm just staring helplessly at the display when it says 'no signal' because I cannot do anything. I'm currently pining for my Logic interface!
fisherking
check your cable, try a different one. reboot. call apple... i have a dell monitor connected to my new mini, and no issues.
Little Fat Bloke
Tried different cables, no luck. I've done a bit of checking and it seems it's a common complaint with a lot of monitor users. Perhaps I'll just have to bite the bullet and pay the extra for the official Apple Display. Cheers
fisherking
why not talk to apple first? almost everyone i know (and lots of people on these very forums) use non-apple monitors with their macs. i'd explore why this is happening and what the fix is before dropping money on the apple display. is your LG current? what version HDMI? the studio is HDMI 2.0... lookatthisguy
Yeah, Apple doesn’t make their computers to only work with their monitors. Don’t do that to yourself.

Little Fat Bloke
The monitor/display Is the LG 27 UP850, and I believe the LG has the older HDMI, but I should be able to use another port with the right connections? I've been rushed off my trotters these last few days but I'll have time for a closer look tomorrow. Once again, thanks for your replies. triplets
So it is a USB-C monitor. Are you using that connection or just HDMI? With just HDMI you won't have mouse and keyboard.

Little Fat Bloke
That's what I've been trying, HDMI connections. There is only the one on the Mac Studio, but two on the LG and I'm currently getting 'No Signal' from both of them.
fisherking
you need to read thru the posts on this very thread; ideas about other ports, about other monitors. or call apple (or LG, for that matter).

David Nahmani
@Little Fat Bloke unfortunately I have the exact same issue here with my Mac Mini M1 often failing to connect to my 4K HUAWEI MateView 28.2" (connected via USB-C), which keeps stating, stubbornly, "No input signal". 😞 Sometimes I just have to restart the Mac mini, and even that doesn't reconnect right away, I have to press keys on my keyboard, turn the monitor off and on again multiple times until I get lucky. Very frustrating. I'm not sure what the solution is. If I find one I'll post it here.
Little Fat Bloke
My issue is ignorance on my behalf. For years and years I used an iMac and never had any serious issues, all-in-one suited me. But the last iMac (on Ventura) just did not get on with the updated Logic Pro: way too many bugs causing multi-coloured spinning beach balls to make guest appearances. I've now sold that set up and have the Mac Studio and an LG 4k monitor. But because of my lack of technical know-how, and the fact that you don't seem to get instructional manuals nowadays, I'm stuck. I have lots of cables and leads but no idea where they actually go. It's frustrating and it's a long process of trial and error but I'll get there...all together now, "Aah, poor you!"
fisherking
you can always book a teamviewer (or whatever) session with some of the people on thiis forum (ie screen-sharing), and have someone walk you thru things. but if you can, first call APPLE, and get help with the monitor issue; is the LG compatible? what cables should you use? etc.... and 'good luck' is probably a lot more useful than 'poor you'! Little Fat Bloke
Hi I was with the Apple support people all morning last Saturday and yesterday morning, too. Between us we tried every port available: Thunderbolt, HDMI, Display Port etc. I'm not sure but I believe I might need an adaptor to go from the LG's Display Port to the Mac Studio as there is no Display Port on the Mac Studio. fisherking
if the monitor is not compatible, look at other monitors. you don't have to go for the apple one (unless you want to). but first: amazon is full of 'display port to hdmi' adapters, and there should be other options as well. you can start there (with an adapter). what year is the LG. i got a (2022 model) dell monitor for my mac mini, and it works perfectly with HDMI. most 'current' monitors should be fine... Little Fat Bloke
I haven't got the Apple one. I've got the LG UP850, but I have no idea of the year (I switch it on and all I get is the 'No Signal' message). I'll shop around for the display port to HDMI adaptor and try that. Cheers anyway. Cheers anyway. right. but you mentioned considering the apple one... that's what i was referring to. that monitor IS current; found this on amazon (US): I have a macbook pro 2020 and I connected the usb-c cable to the monitor and there is no picture on monitor. Any suggestions? Are you using the USB-C cable that came as an included accessory with the LG 27” IPS 4K UHD VESA HDR400 USB-C Monitor, Model # 27UP850-W? If your MacBook Pro 2020 is not detecting the monitor, try disconnecting the cable then reconnect it. I have the same issue. usb-c cable charges my macbook pro 2018, but it says no signal. When I use HDMI cable, it works, but it is not what I want. Please let me know if you know how to fix the issue. The white usb c cable that comes with the monitor simply doesn’t work with MacBook Pro. I used an usb c cable that comes with Samsung SSD and it works like a charm. I had the same initial problem. You need to click on the menu button underneath the monitor and switch the input to USB-C.
Little Fat Bloke
Mac Studio, do you mean? The HDMI on the Studio should be compatible with the HDMI on the LG, the same for the Thunderbolts. Tomorrow I shall try to find an adaptor for the HDMI to Display Port. Because there are no instructions (and the fact that I'm a slow-witted oaf with the IQ of a paving slab), it's difficult to know what cable to put where. The only cable that is clearly named is the HDMI. It sometimes seems like there are more variations on USB's than ever before - they'll have probably manufactured about a hundred more since I wrote this. olavsu1
And I haven't figured out the monitor menu yet, see if you can set the monitor to test what kind of input the signal comes from? I can get my LG monitor to test which input (of the three) the signal comes from and the monitor itself switches to that input.
