Portable Keyboard/Midi Controller?

Hi Peeps,

I just recently bought the new 17 Inch Powerbook-specifically to use Logic-and also a Dj program, I was wondering if anybody has any advice on the best portable keyboard/Midi controller to go with Logic. I will use Ultrabeat allot for dance beats, and if the midi controller can double up for use with NI's Traktor this would be a bonus. I have very little(no) prior knowledge of Midi-but am aiming to use Logic created Beats in live DJ sets, (with both Traktor and Vinyl).

I want to write the beats, then twiddle knobs for subtle techno-style changes, Ultrabeat seems wicked for this. Any info/ideas etc on this subject would be very much appreciated. Portability is really the key.

Also, I am currently in Tokyo-and I would suggest any body heading this way save their pennies for electronic purchases-VAT is a non issue here(apox.3%)-Logic was a bargain and the MAC shop in Ginza stocks allot of english language software.

Thanks.

You might consider the Novation REMOTE 25 in conjunction with the LC Xmu software http://www.opuslocus.com/lcxmu/. This software essentially makes the Novation look like a Logic Control surface to Logic. The LC surface has the best integration with Logic I believe.

One thing that is unclear is how well the Novation 25SL will communicate with Logic, particularly compared with LCXmu. For example, will you be able to access all of the synth parameters with the SL?

To be sure, I think this is going to be one cool keyboard. Not sure when it is going to be released. However, I do think the standard REMOTE will be around, but at a lower price point.

You will not only be able to access the parameters...our pals at Novation are breaking ground with their "automap" feature. ADmittedly it only works in Reason, Cubase and Nuendo right now. But Rob Jones, one of the guys demoing this model has assured me that Logic Automap is being worked on.

The SL will hit stores in 2-3 weeks and will retail for $400. Cant wait!
