Trösta
Hi! This is my first topic on here. I've recently been recording non-metronome based takes for instrumental tracks, singer songwriter tracks. Being intrigued by adding MIDI stuff after the fact, I delved into the "Apply region tempo to project tempo" to create tempo maps of the recorded audio. It works pretty well with a defined metric form of playing with strong "1" and maps the tempo surprisingly well, identifying each bar start. However when you look at the tempo track all you see is steps. Meaning it doesn't take into account that you are rushing or slowing down between two tempi, just marking stepped values. I tried the "apply smooth" thinking it would follow the speeding up and down of the audio, but no. You can manually apply a curve to the tempo points, but I cannot find how to do it for an entire track. Perhaps this is a feature request or is there another way to do it? Thanks T
fuzzfilth
Have you actually listened to the tempo map? Like, listen to the recording with the click on ? Every 1 is spot on since it has a matching tempo change, but can you confirm that the 2, 3 and 4 lag behind in bars where the tempo of the recording speeds up and rush ahead if the tempo of the recording slows down? If not, which is very probable, you're fine, you don't need to worry about smoothing the tempo map.

Yes I did by trying MIDI arpeggiator and percussive parts on it (and no : subsequent beats to the 1 aren’t lagging, it is fine there) However, I am not worried by tempo smoothing : it just doesn’t follow the played accelerating or slowing down inside bars or over a few bars but will just go from eg 92-98 abruptly while the acceleration was gradual. Hence my question, thanks T
fuzzfilth
If Logic's automatic beat detection doesn't give good results, I'd suggest to use Beatmapping as explained here: https://www.logicprohelp.com/forum/topic/135657-beat-mapping-flex-time-amp-embedded-tempo/?do=findComment&comment=779411 to quickly get a useable Tempo Map, so you can either straighten out the fluctuating tempo of the recording to a solid tempo, or create the rest of the song around the floating tempo if that's the better choice.
