Logic panning instruments left. When changing outputs back to mono, quality of effects dips.

For some reason every time I load a new instrument track for guitar or bass, it pans it completely to the left. Output 1 is selected. Ascending is not checked.
I can click the track and check channel mode and switch it back and forth between stereo and mono which fixes the problem. But for some reason the audio quality is completely off.

 

I opened up an older project, and I can play under the old guitar tracks I had saved just fine, but if I open up another track, with the same settings or channel strip setting, it does like I said above. I have no idea what is going on?

I think "Output 1" might be your problem. The output should be "Stereo Out" or Output 1–2. "Output 1" is just the left speaker.

As for the audio quality being off: the "Guitar or Bass" option in the New Tracks dialog creates an audio track that includes a bunch of preset plug-ins on its channel strip. Maybe those plug-ins are effecting your sound in a way you aren't used to or don't like. Try just creating a normal Audio track instead, which is the same exact thing but with no FX. Then you can add your own plug-in effects manually to your liking.

Yes, you probably had a plugin inserted as mono>stereo, and when switching the channel format back and forth, that plugin stays in mono...
