Logic Pro not working properly with Mac QWERTY keyboard - not registering key press for some notes in MIDI

Hey there,

Whenever I try to use Logic's software MIDI keyboard with my Mac's QWERTY keyboard, Logic won't register a key press for certain note combinations. This happened when I tried to play G U P ' together, or as separate notes one after the other, whilst holding down the previous notes. The weird thing is that the notes will work with other combinations, ie. G U O '

I'm really confused by this, and not sure how to proceed. I've reset Logic Pro and the issue still remains. My Mac keyboard works just fine, there are no issues there.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes, the Mac's keyboard is not designed to be a musical instrument, so it has limitations, especially when you hit multiple keys together (which is not generally how you type).

Getting a proper music/MIDI keyboard is the proper solution - the qwerty is just a quick convenience really.

Hey des99, thanks for your reply.

That's a shame, I was hoping it would be a fixable Logic problem 😅 It's weird how the QWERTY keyboard can play four notes together with some combinations and not with others.

Just some extra info on this issue -- I've done a bit more research, and for anyone else interested it looks like this limitation is something called "rollover" on keyboards. (There's a StackExchange thread on this topic: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/415869/impossible-to-key-press-three-near-keys). It's a weird problem.

Thanks.

It's weird, I agree, however it has nothing to do with playing notes, or with Logic: it's a limitation of the keyboard itself: in any text editor, or in this text entry area or in the URL field of a browser, try pressing and holding the keys ajshkf and then try to add one more note, you won't be able to.
