kerochan
So, I am collaborating with another musician, he has sent me his Logic project made in Logic 10.4.4 I opened in my Logic version 10.7.4 I added my part. Saved the project and sent him it back with my part added, PROBLEM, when he tries to open it he gets this message " SORRY, CAN'T LOAD THIS PROJECT BECAUSE IT IS CREATED BY A NEWER LOGIC PRO X VERSION" Is this right?? Many thanks
Solution des99 Posted March 5 Solution Share Posted March 5 (edited) Yes, that is right. Old versions of Logic often can't open newer versions of Logic projects, as they have many newer features the old version doesn't know anything about (there were *many* significant changes between 10.4.x and 10.5.x). Thank you, Oh really? 100% sure? I used to get sent many projects made on Logic 10.4.4. they all opened on my Logic 10.3.2, with little messages saying certain stock plug ins were not available in 10.3.2, that was it, I could still open the project. Then whats gonna happen to all the projects I created in Logic 10.3.2, now that I have Logic 10.7.4? they not gonna open? really? Many thanks for your help btw

Yes, depending on the version numbers, the behavior is different. 2 minutes ago, kerochan said: Then whats gonna happen to all the projects I created in Logic 10.3.2, now that I have Logic 10.7.4? they not gonna open? really? Opening a project saved in an older version of Logic 10 in a newer version of Logic 10 isn't a problem. The problem is when opening a newer project in an older version.

Note the specific use of the word "often" in my response. I didn't say *always*. In many cases, the features or file format don't change much between versions, and Logic can forward-open projects from later versions. However, when there are significant changes - and I outlined that between 10.4..x and 10.5.x there were significant changes that would affect you specific case - it can't. Hence you get the behaviour you see. 10 minutes ago, kerochan said: Then whats gonna happen to all the projects I created in Logic 10.3.2, now that I have Logic 10.7.4? they not gonna open? really? You're misunderstanding the difference between opening old projects versions in later versions of Logic, verses opening new project versions in old versions of Logic. The two scenarios are not the same. Of course you can open your 10.3.2 projects in 10.7.4. You just won't be able to open your 10.7.4 projects in Logic 10.3.2. enossified
The behavior changed in 10.7. I was able to open 10.5 and 10.6 projects in 10.4.8 with the warning. I could not open 10.7 projects at all in 10.4.8. I keep a copy of 10.6 on my hard drive for situations like this. Hi Everyone, Is this still the case with the very latest Logic version? I can still open my old 10.3.2 projects right? Many thanks!
