Changing Bus numbers - Cleaning up a Mix

Hello,

I'm facing a mix with a lot of random bus numbers, some reverbs on 1, 2, some are on 63, 75, etc.  There are a good amount of buses too, from parallel processing to instrument group buses.

What I'd like to do is click on that bus 63, change it to 3, and have all the tracks that have sends to 63 now go to 3.  Luckily I can easily change number of bus 63 to 3 without loosing the plugins on it, but with 100+ track session it would take a very long time to manually re-sort this all out.

Curious if anyone knows how to do this?

Thanks

This won't help you very much, but for the record: Usually (although technically possible) you won't have any plug-ins on a Bus. The plug-ins are on the Aux that you send the signal to via the Bus. So of course you won't lose any plug-ins when changing the bus. I'm wondering though what you would gain by reordering bus numbers...?

I see what you mean, Logic just has a funny way of using the terms Bus and Aux interchangeably a bit.

To answer your question - If I could re-organize all these random bus numbers to more intuitive ones (ie.  I know Bus 1 is Vox Submix, 2 is Drum Mix, 10-13 are my reverbs, 14-16 are my delays, or whatever,) then I can mix much quicker than trying to search every time for where to send one of my 100 tracks to the Plate Reverb aux.

I'm afraid that there's no way to do this other than doing it manually, which will be time consuming.

All good, thanks for helping me accept my fate!  haha

Has it? Where would that be? A Bus is quite a different thing than an Aux, so using those terms interchangeably would be close to a bug IMO

Understood, the menu of Busses would certainly be easier to browse, that's true.

Knxvll,

Had a similar experience wanting to have things in a particular order, I created a new template that had everything laid out how I wanted it and used that template for all future projects.    You can also import existing projects into the new template but as you know, it will require some re-routing to the new buses.  I started my new template with a higher bus number (128) so any imported projects with assignments already made would not be adversely affected.   Seems to work pretty well and also took care of my OCD with project layout:)

Regards

I've always found orderly bus management in Logic to be a bit difficult. Maybe there are features I've missed that would make it easier, but I'll mention one feature, just in case you're not aware of it, which is that in Settings->Audio->General, you have some options for what bus ranges Logic will use for automatic bus assignment. This allows you to, at the very least, get things like track stacks out of the way so that you can reserve specific ranges for your own use.

Thats very clever!  I knew getting organized and setting up a go to template was the right next step, but I like that you start at 128 to give room for possible other imported track buses - I've done this before and its been a nightmare trying to avoid fighting bus numbers between two projects.  Thanks!

I went this way too, bus *very* quickly got annoyed by me constantly havinf to row to the top 128 busses to get anything basic done. So I flipped it around and told Logic to leave me alone on anything less than bus 65. Now only imported stuff lives up there and I can quickly grab my Rev1 bus at #1.

Also, giving the Busses actual names in the IO Labels list makes a tremendous difference, as described here:
